I've never had a deck but I like them for the design, it's nothing to do with them making me "cool".

It's never too late to learn. Magic is something you can pick up at 60 if you really want (as long as you don't have arthritis). It might be a bit harder for your hands to adjust but put the practice in and I'm sure you'll be a decent magician for your family and friends in no time.
