    Rubber band trick name/source?

Good catch. We've got good spam filters (most of it is blocked before you guys even see it). I think the reposting an old post was an attempt to get around the spam filters by having what looks like a legitimate post. Thanks to @ID4 it didn't work.

Is there a place to get used/discounted card magic books

The Magic Cafe has a forum for selling used books -- you have to be a member and have a minimum number of quality posts. Amazon and EBay are good too. Most of the other sites I know are for out of print books where you will be paying a premium over the original price because they are hard to get.

What is magic heaven like for you?

Marc DeSouza has an old Genii interview where he talks about there being many types of magicians - professional performers, casual performers, creators, historians and even those who just love the knowledge of how things are done. We are all drawn to different aspects of the art and that's OK...

Pick a Card, and any other patter you avoid

This is the difference between telling and showing. Telling raises doubt, showing encourages belief. Part of this is developing an internal script - which is really a magician lying to themselves. If you tell yourself, "it doesn't matter which card they pick" when you are doing a force, the...

Pick a Card, and any other patter you avoid

Are you sure? Was that fair? Let's recap. You could have picked any.... That was a free choice... Pretend you are that card... Verify its not a trick deck (coin, rope, etc.) I have an ordinary deck (coin, coffee mug, set of linking rings) It's completely lost in the deck. There is no way (I can...

    Bicycle Force Deck?

Sounds like @Gabriel Z is correct if the deck shares a similarity with a Svengali deck. If not, it is referred to as a Pop-Eyed Popper Deck.

    Magical Community?

The Cafe has its positives. They have a great forum section for selling / buying used books (as well as DVDs and effects). There are some members on there who have a tremendous wealth of knowledge and many posts that can greatly assist you when researching an effect or prop. However, there...

    Unknown Prediction Mentalism

This is a standard mentalism confabulation routine which has been used in magic shows being typically called the "show in review." There are so many different ways to do this using forces, Jedi mind tricks, switches, magic gnomes, writers, multiple outs, one-ahead, small assistants hidden in...

    A heckler first.

If this happens frequently, @Casey Rudd's idea is perfect. I think that could be taken the wrong way and the performer seems like the jerk and it actually seems to confirm that the spectator was in on it. My suggestion would be more along the lines of "That's funny, I don't remember talking...

Gimmicks vs sleight of hand (coins)

The important question is what does your audience think? Exactly.... they can't tell the difference. They just see the "effect" of the gimmick or sleight of hand. As for gimmicks being easier, I don't necessarily agree. It takes a level of skill to handle gimmicks like a shell. Also, when...

    How to practice "being casual"?

@ChristopherT's post is pure gold. The only thing I can add is to avoid "don't" in your thinking. The only way you "don't" do something is to affirmatively "do" something. So think in terms of what you should do. So, for "don't act self-conscious" think "do talk to the person and make eye...
