    Artifice v2? Really?

There is more to magic than T11, D&D and Ellusionist. Each company has great products and not so great products, but they are only a small slice of the world of magic. As for cards, judge each deck individually, not based on which company makes it. That being said, I don't think calling...

    Confessions

I know too many effects that require a set up deck I think Jumbo Cards are cool I've had my Fakini billiard balls for a year and still haven't mastered a routine I've skipped around while reading Card College I have a silks in every size and color I have more magic books than I can ever read I...

Hello everyone! I have a few questions.

With a little research, I've come up with this: This dice effect was originated by Lubor Fiedler in the 1960s as the Lubor Wurful (translated as Lubor Die). That effect was sold by Tannens as Shock Die (apparently without proper crediting). Lubor's effect subsequently was marketed by Howard...

Are spongeballs like a deck of cards?

As others have said, they can change color (in someone's hand if you like) and change size (i prefer going from a 2 inch to several 1 inch balls) or change shape (square sponge ball anyone)? I do a Halloween routine where the black and orange sponges change color, multiply and then transform...

    Appearing Cane?

Listen to Luis. It needs to be twisted to loosen it and it should be stored open. If you want the instructions, PM me your e-mail address and I'll scan them and e-mail them to you. Also, don't grease it with anything. Just wipe it down with a dry lint free cloth to get the dust of it.

Throwing a card at from the middle of the deck

If the card came out as they were cutting the pack, look to my original post.

    Outside Magic...

D'Lites just don't work outside unless it is a dusk or at night. A good substitute is spongeballs. You could even have one of the spectators use the wand to make the balls multiply. Come up with a presentation other than "look, now the balls have multiplied." As for cards, you can do an...

Can I make a color change its own trick????

Can you make a color change it's own trick? In a word, no. A color change isn't effect by itself. And good patter is more than just saying what you are doing. As Jakubr said, learn some other material which uses sleights other than color changes. Expand your horizons.

    Creating a magic trick

My advice is to build a strong knowledge base before attempting to create anything. If you are a beginner, your time is better spent learning the fundamentals. You can learn lot of sleights in the time it takes you to reinvent a one sleight. Also, the more strong magic you learn, the better...

Never say "You're wrong." - Dale Carnegie

A couple of thoughts. First, as magicians we need to think how are performances are perceived by spectators. Even if we aren't saying that our spectators are "wrong" we often perform to show off our skills rather than to entertain. The focus should be on the spectators not on us. My second...

Never say "You're wrong." - Dale Carnegie

Slydini was unique. If you can find a video of his performance of the Helicopter Card you can see the reaction of the spectator who was helping him. The audience loved it, but the spectator clearly felt that he was being made a fool of (even recognizing that everyone dressed that way in the...

    Help, Missing Foundations

MAGICPEDIA is a great place to start. In addition to Hiding the Elephant and the Magician and the Cardsharp, check out Steinmeyer's The Last Greatest Magician in the World. For actual foundations in card magic, I'd recommend the following books (all of which are inexpensive): Hugard and Braue...

    DVDs and Books

There is nothing wrong with learning from a DVD. HOWEVER, the recommendation that people get books isn't because DVDs are inherently bad but that books have significant advantages over DVDs. Books have more effects per dollar -- a single effect DVD can cost up to $30 while a book at that...

    I need some help.

Thanks. Magic and Showmanship is probably the best $15 (or less if you shop around) anyone can spend on magic. Reading it will change the way you look at magic.

Is It Too Late to Learn?

What are you working on and what are you using for resources? That will help you get a sense of how you are progressing. An Ascanio Spread you can pick up in a couple of hours, same with an Erdnase Change, an Elmsley Count will take a couple of days, a faro shuffle about a week, an Elias...

    Whose Tricks Are These?

Two Card Monte as performed by David Blaine is "Be honest, what is it" by Eddie Fechter. It was originally Published in Magician Nitely in 1974. And you can find it in "Fechter: The Magic of Eddie Fechter" by Jerry Mentzer. Ambitious Card is more difficult to pinpoint. The version most people...

    new book test effect? ungimmicked

Why burn the paper? If you were really a psychic why would you do that? If I'm a layman it looks like you are burning the evidence of a trick. Also, why mention stooges? It is like magicians who tell the audience they are using a "regular deck" or say that "every card is different" - the...
