Attending Nathan Kranzo lecture tomorrow night!

Rick: I saw Nate's lecture two weeks ago. It was great. He showed an impromptu newspaper tear, some very cool effects with a Mene-Tekel deck, a 3-Fly routine and a good method for a two book test (would love to discuss some alternate handlings I thought of) . The package is a great deal...

    Countering Questions

There is a risk of letting a spectator "examine" a deck. That sets a pattern by establishing they have a right to examine your props. Also, I think that even telling them "it is a perfectly normal deck" or "look every card is different" as some magicians do also is problematic. It implies...

    Countering Questions

I suspect your performing style has lead these spectators to think that the rules of the game are you trick them and they try to find out how to catch you. So change your style. Present your effects in a manner that gives them something to think about other than how you are doing the trick.

    Hidden Gems

There is a ton of great stuff including Dai Vernon's mental force, Stewart James' Miraskill, great variations on You Do as I Do, amazing ideas for short cards, double backers, stripper decks and more. Yes you have to wade through a lot of mediocre effects, but just the sheer volume of material...

    Best magic for disabled children

In suspect that Zenn will help you get where you need to be. My advice is to avoid cards and select effects that have clear plots. Keep your patter simple, but make sure you don't come across as talking down to the audience.

    Best magic for disabled children

Are the children physically disabled, mentally disabled or a combination of both? I think that could make a difference in what you perform.

Book Recommendation - "Sleights of Mind"

That looks amazing. I've been on a theory kick lately - Fitzke, Nelms, McCabe, Webber, Tamaritz, etc. I'm adding this to the the list.

    Special Gaff

They have changed the name and it is now the Ultimate Gaffed Deck. Just so you know, there is only one card in the deck that is half a 7C and half a 5H. You can see it HERE

    Special Gaff

It is called a split face card and can be done on across the middle or on a diagonal. There is one in the Blue Gaff Deck that goes with Simon Lovell's Packet Killer DVD (the deck can be purchased separately). You can also do this yourself by splitting cards. There is a DVD titled The Art of...

    Routining and order of effects

I think I understand where you are going. My initial reaction is that if someone cannot process a series of events (a magic performance which violates their certainty of reality) they do not overturn their belief system but carve out an exception. Balls cannot penetrate metal cups EXCEPT...

Best way to force multiple numbers

The effect is where the spectators call out numbers which when multiplied on a iPhone equal a predicted number. I think it has too many steps and won't look as clean as you want. I have some additional thoughts on using the bills which I will PM you.

    Routining and order of effects

Thomas: I like this. I actually think that the sponge bunny routine may be more powerful for the spectators than POAHF. In part because POAHF lowers their defenses. If you just started off with the sponge bunnies, the spectators could see it as being cheesy. You use POAHF to set the mood as...

Best way to force multiple numbers

If you are performing for a large enough group, have 10 people write down numbers between 1 and 50 and put them in an envelope. Collect the envelopes in a large paper bag. Pull 5 envelopes out of the bag and use the numbers in the selected envelopes. Put the numbers on a lottery ticket. Buy 9...

    Routining and order of effects

Thomas: Of course you can call me David. I think there are different ways to present magic. One way is to illustrate a story. That was the way I used magic in my example. The story was powerful and the magic was strong and fit well within the story. My preference would be for the magic and...

    Routining and order of effects

I like what you are saying but I think to make it really clear we would need an example. I think that is why Rick and I are asking for more details on your routine because we would like to see how you are thinking about doing this.

    Routining and order of effects

The best way to answer this is to put it into context. The effect is at an end of a show entitled "The Meaning of Christmas." The show starts out talking about how busy we get in December. The effects tie in with the telling of the Christmas story and include a Christmas McCombical Deck...

    Routining and order of effects

I like what you are talking about in theory, but without knowing more of how you present the routine it is difficult to assess how effective your routine will be. That is, the ending could bring closure and positive emotions and a soft landing or it could be a let down that comes across as...

    Bunny Magic XD

I've been researching bunnies for magic routines. If you are going to get one, try to get a Netherland Dwarfs and Holland Lops. According to everything I've read, those are the preferred breeds for magic.
