    Hindu Tornado

Just to chime in here, a good friend of mine uses the material and concepts a lot, including in a recent gig, to great success. Out of interest I've browsed his copy of the book and though I no longer flourish with any seriousness, I did get the impression that there were a lot of very workable...

    Psychological Forces

Whichever route you go, just make sure you know what you're studying. And beware confusing presentation for reality.

An intermediate card magician wouldn't need to ask what to get. An intermediate magician knows where he is in magic and where he wants to go, and by extension, does research himself as to what kind of magic he wants to perform.

subway card magic name some! name your ten best one !

No, that works fine. A transposition type effect is an interesting way to look at it. And I have in the past also used the grabbing the card presentation too. I just wanted to hopefully get others who have never thought about it to start doing so. But you're absolutely right about the box.

Old move that we do not use!

From memory, I believe it's a variation on the Elmsley count. Feel free to correct me on that one, it's very possible that I'm wrong.

    The new "ANY EFFECT" battle

Fair enough. Nonetheless it takes more than the average T11 member to realise how important presentation is and to actually use it properly, so props for that. But yes, I think it probably needs a bit more tweaking on your end to fit you properly, it doesn't suit you yet.

And it's worth mentioning that PS3 is in pre-order too.

    Starting a card collection

Black Tigers, Vipers, etc., for $20, anyone? Tallys, $15. Which is, incidentally, why, when I visit the US, I will be bringing two suitcases.

Tell me about it. One deck of Bikes cost $10 here.

Card Trick on top on your head ...

Out of interest, what do you do, and why do you ask? (Just curious) Unless it is inappropriate, I tend to perform the Berglas Effect.

    Lots of Street Magic

Because it's so much easier to look down on someone, than to lend a helping hand. It's easier to identify what's bad, and to criticise it because you don't have to think about how it relates to yourself. And because many people here don't even have the mildest clue of what works and what doesn't...

    The new "ANY EFFECT" battle

@ DaveyG: You had too much dead time where nothing was happening, and it showed because the spectators found it almost embarrassingly necessary to say something to fill up the silence. Adam Sandler does not make for good patter, unfortunately, it just takes away from the effect. You lose...

    Psychological Forces

Firstly, it needs to be said that this type of magic is rare and infrequent. So if you're looking to perform that, you'll be disappointed. It really depends on how pure you want to go. For example, linguistic deception comes in several stages. There are some which are intended to push the...

    Another sharing site closed down!

I read this thread at the Cafe a few days ago. The thing that was most revealing to me, is this: On Theory11, any link to an exposure site is edited out immediately for fear of leading so called "magicians" to unethical paths. On The Magic Café, links to exposure sites are allowed in posts...

The Manchurian Approach DVD - my review

By and by, many such products are reviewed here over time; but the continuing trend is that most people just can't be bothered to put work into anything. In one ear and out the other, so I wouldn't be too concerned. Most also have difficulty judging good from bad advice, as shown by the...

There are, I believe, several IBM rings in Australia; the guys in Sydney do meet up from time to time, that much I know. But, I'm not sure if there's on in Brisbane or not. If you really wanted to know, I'm sure you could check on the IBM website or email them - they responded really quickly...

    M?

Blood is perfectly easy to work out once you have the system memorised. It's not difficult to mark or learn, though of course it requires practice. It is quick and there is no counting, only an interpretation of the markings. That said, I do personally find that it is a little difficult to see...

I'm surprised more people haven't affirmed Katie's post. Although I second visualartist's comment on performance theory.

Hey man, yeah I'm from Sydney. I was actually surprised by how many magicians there are around here. I hang out with a lot of the young (teenage) magicians around here and there are quite a number - though considerably less who are serious, but still a few. I also hang out regularly with an...
