I disagree about the last comment. There are many magicians who focus more on their presentation than their technique/trick.

Good on you for getting into this stuff. one of the best things you can do is to relax your hands. Still be firm, but just relaxed. A lot of people think you need to have a lot of tension and grip the cards as hard as possible, but that's actually not quite true. Learning to relax is key.
