Saturday Night Roundtable - Steve Cohen Decoded

Hi Steve, My wife and I loved your Waldorf show when we saw it a few years back. It was also a real pleasure to meet you. My question is in your research, (knowing the secrets behind them) which effect did you come across that was the most dangerous for magicians to perform? (highest...

    Classic Silk Trick

How do you think it looks? I love this effect and I do it every time I perform. It's tricky because about 1 in 30 times someone I show it to knows how it's done. Either they have seen it done poorly, they got one in a kids magic set, or they have seen it exposed on one of many popular movies...

    Website design/hosting

I use Wix ($8.25/month). Easy to set up (though it's not finished). They have html 5 now too. Much cheaper, though sometimes that can show. I host with Godaddy for $12.99 per year (less than two dollars a month). If you're not into web stuff at all, then $75 is a fine deal. And perhaps, even...

    Perform magic

The trick is do one trick and stop. Only do more if it's a routine thing. When they ask for another, simply say "later". When they ask for a previous effect, and you don't want to do it again, say "I already did that one. If you like I can show you something different".

    Best tricks less than $100

I did Stigmata tonight. So good. I need to do that more. Liquid Metal is brilliant. On the Spot is SO useful for more than card tricks. I'm currently enjoying and called The Boof. Excellent and practical card material.

    Magic for my girlfriends dog

Good job top of the food chain. You fooled a dog. That's what the dog is thinking. Lol thanks for sharing. Made us laugh.

    13 steps to mentalism

It's a great purchase to explore mentalist routines and methods. It's a wealth of knowledge and tools. Use the tools to accomplish plots that you find interesting, or to help streamline effects that you already do.

Balancing Magic and a "Regular" Full-Time Job & De

Hey, I'm a part-time professional, I work a job that includes 2-4 evenings a week, my wife and I have a 3 year old daughter and a new son with extreme medical needs. Life is busy! When I am at home I need to be allthere mentally. Our son requires a lot of work, so when I'm home, I do as much...

Saturday Night Roundtable - Daniel Madison

I appreciated your lecture at emc. What an honour that must have been. What part of the emc experience made the biggest impact on you as a performer? What other unique opportunities has your magic and cardistry opened for you?

    Archive Points

Well he's referring to be able to use them with any purchase as opposed to the x number of items on the archive. Though yes technically, if semantics float your boat, the points are limited to items (and perhaps other things in the future-I'm thinking Christmas contest) on the theory11 Site...

    The Archive News?

I would assume that the points are not retroactive. That would be complicated. And I would assume that any effect on the Wire would count.

    REGENERATION :: Blake Vogt

Good review. I would add a thought about your closing comment about the hobbyist. I actually think this trick IS worth it for the hobbyist. You see, doing paid work, there are some effects I have done literally thousands of times. However, when I was starting, I would learn a trick and show it...

    First Restaurant Gig - Disaster

I remember a similar gig I did when I started. In the course of an hour I barely did any tables and I found it super awkward to approach people. However, I wouldn't call it a disaster because of what you walk away from it with. As already said nice job reflecting - it does get easier the more...

theory11 decks are getting more expensive

I've also spoken with Bicycle for quotes, and at the time (Before T11), they had some stocks and finishes that were not available to schmucks like me. They had some that were reserved only for various companies. Just a thought.

    Rebel playing cards

The way the rebels feel are fantastic. It's the same thing I like about the Sentinals. Such a nice smooth feel to the cards like Andrei mentioned. I wish the monarchs felt that good too. My only disikeis the United States Capitol Building in the design. It doesn't really mean much to those...

    Getting someones attention

Prospective clients often ask for video of performance. I strive to have my personality come through in my emails, and as soon as I can, I get them on the phone so they can hear me.

    First Gig Ever.

Just a tip, for a few bucks you can buy foosballs that look like soccer balls. Also I would add that you can broaden your theme from soccer a bit. You could talk about teamwork (You can do an effect that has a bunch of people making decisions and has an amazing outcome). Following leadership...
