Camera tricks are okay to use in magic

No, you're missing the important 'if'. That's why an effect with simple handling is much more powerful than the same effect with overhandling. If they suspect you did something fishy it is less effective than if you did the sleight invisibly and unseen. Which of course is the point of sleight of...

Camera tricks are okay to use in magic

If the audience can see how it's done -yes absoloutley. If not, then not a waste at all.

    What makes "Regeneration" different?

Fair enough. I really see it as so simple and direct. Sure every plot line is the same for every TnR, however it's in the details. A straightforward performance, no fishy handling, the details of the signing, holding, and ripping of the card make it so clean, and as previously mentioned -...

    What makes "Regeneration" different?

New info from facebook: "We will be offering refills for a HUGELY discounted rate to any existing purchasers." Ooo, the Archive is filling up....

    What makes "Regeneration" different?

They are not reusable. This is something you would do for a very specific situation. At a time when you want to leave an impact. I would assume that refills would be available.

    theory11's Five New Releases?

Free with points from purchases. A bonus for those who are buying. Like a way to reward those who are supporting T11 with their dollars. We all like freebies with our purchases. Depending what else they put in there, it could be really good.

    theory11's Five New Releases?

We were all quite wrong. It looks like it will be an area for different gear. Very interested to see what today will bring.

    What makes "Regeneration" different?

I posted a similar response a the cafe, but yes, it's so simple. The fact they never let the card go and they tear it themselves will make it IMPOSSIBLE to deconstruct. If the gimmick is what I think, it is worth every penny to have someone make this (especially someone with Blake's expertise)...

Camera tricks are okay to use in magic

That might make sense, but as Darwin Ortiz points out in Strong Magic, that when a spectator figures out any part, they feel they know how it's done and they are no longer going to be astonished. Impressed, possibly, astonished, no. And in response to Craig, times are changing my friend. They...

    Relying too much on cards?

I would say hit your local library. Lots of good books available with tonnes of great magic with no cards. I recently went to help at a camp where no cards were allowed. Suddenly I had to do magic with only things I could find outside. I did broken and restored twig a lot, Paul Harris' Leaf...

Camera tricks are okay to use in magic

The same goes if the spectator knows it's just sleight of hand. That is unless it's truly deceptive. Wouldn't that be the same (as Mike is suggesting) with camera editing? If it deceives.... Just think of how many times people ask if you can float like that guy on tv...

Camera tricks are okay to use in magic

And the implication is that cheating is wrong? Correct? When we cheat the audience using an unseen gimmick that's okay, but when someone fools us (or others) with a camera trick or stooge, as magicians (myself included) our hair stands on end.

Camera tricks are okay to use in magic

Good post. And what constitutes a camera trick? Splicing? What about turning the camera upside down? What about doing important things outside the camera frame? This was me playing with the angle of the camera, and gravity. The board is actually perpendicular to the floor, and there's a magnet...

Parlour Style Show - How much should I charge?

heh, my first barter was half cash, and the other half in free movie tickets for a year. Great advice so far. I would charge pretty low for the first show. My first show was $50, then worked my way up as I did more. I would try to hit that $50-$100 range. The reason is that the show hasn't...
