That's crazy. I cannot imagine having to go through that with my wife. That must have been very hard.

    Card to button effects

I would check out Shawn Farquar's effect Tagged. It's a great idea and a nice presentation of the idea you are thinking of : http://magichampion.com/?page_id=116

Getting Quotes and Sending Thank You Cards

Sorry Rick, I spend all my days at the hospital now. But I wanted to quickly say that is great advice, and admittedly an area that I need to start doing. When I made my website, I put in fake (humorous) quotes with the intension to replace them for real quotes as I got them. Clients comment...

    Soda trick...

Nice idea. I was thinking you could have them think of a drink (aka force the drink in the can). Have them think about it and say you knew exactly what they were going to choose, and so you brought them a can of it (reveal can). Act disappointed that you were wrong. Give the can to them to...

    breakaway wand- an interesting story

That's too bad.. Kids that young can be quite sensitive. My daughter is three and a half, and just starting to get self conscious about people talking about her and laughing when she says something cute.

    Misdirection

Reading will be of some help. Best way to learn is by getting out and doing the routine infront of people. Watching their faces, playing with different ideas each time you perform. In Gregory Wilson's lecture he put it well: you will be bad at first, so go get the bad out of the way. :-)

    How do you get gigs?

I got a lot of offers for shows while doing restaurant work. I hadn't started doing shows at that point, but I can only imagine if I was promoting a show. I also got tons of calls from advertising with a Partypop ad (though this is my last year with them). Since I got my website up and...

    Critique on show poster appreciated.

Ya, qr codes are losing steam. I work with high school students and they love them and will scan them just for the novelty. Not sure about college age tho. I prefer the vertical poster. Your dress should reflect your style and what you will actually be wearing (and by dress, I mean shirt, no...

    Critique on show poster appreciated.

Brilliant. Looks great. Think about adding a qr code for all those hip college smartphone kids. Is ticket price important to have on there?

Ha ha nice! I'll have to try something.

Do you let people examine your props or cards?

I absolutely let people examine props. Pockets are off limits. However when I perform for certain ethnic groups, they don't have the same boundaries, and when doing something like sponge balls, they try to search you for them. It's pretty funny. But for the most part I perform in formal...

The True Story of the Pre-Release Monarchs

The last two listing's on ebay that I saw had an opened deck listed for $300, and the sealed one was $500. No way to know what they actually sold for, though they didn’t last two days.

    Great Realization!!

If you haven't already, Oz Pearland did a great lecture on penguin magic. Great mentalism material. Also he has some great thoughts and advice on preshow work.

What would you ask Chris Kenner?

Rather than asking the usual question of "what do you think is wrong with magic today", how about what do you think is going really well, or what impresses you the most with where magic both as an art and an industry has gone and is headed?

    Souvenirs Anyone?

Great reminder for me Rick. It's an easy thing to not think of when you're just trying to get to all the tables.
