It really depends. Some people may like harder cards like Aladdins, others may like softer cards like tally and arrco. Some may look for cards with good design and nice handling, for example the smoke and mirror cards by Dan and Dave. I would suggest you try to get various decks of playing...

For cardistry, I think a bigger hands definitely help making the moves easier, but it really doesn't matter if your hands aren't too small. Fanning powder, it works but you don't need it if you have a nice deck of card, actually a deck of Bicycle already fan well.
