    Creating FILTER (and other magic)

That's so great to hear, bugboy! I hear what you're saying about the sound. When I was first developing this trick, I had a roommate...and she wasn't too pleased about it! Yeah, a plastic glass won't be as good because the sound wont' be as good, and audio is such a big part of this trick...but...

    Creating FILTER (and other magic)

Hey JP. I hear ya. Sometimes I get shy about performing for magicians...thinking they'll judge me and what I came up with. And sometimes these fears are warranted. (If you don't believe me, head to the magiccafe or learnmagictrick forums and see for yourself.) If you find it easier to create...

    Creating FILTER (and other magic)

I do not play the piano in those vids...but I do have a couple tracks of mine that I could maybe pair with magic vids in the future.... Yeah, there are quite a few magician/musicians out there. You one of them??

Saturday Night Contest - Filtering Out Exposure

Nope. Haven't ever tried that one live. Too many people figure it out. It's a good idea...there's something there...it just needs improvement.

Saturday Night Contest - Filtering Out Exposure

Also, I just noticed this comment on his youtube video: "I just wanted to comment and say please don't reveal tricks that you can by. Magicians put a lot of time into there tricks and don't like it win people reveal them. So from one magician to other please take this down." Clearly he did...

Saturday Night Contest - Filtering Out Exposure

You guys did GREAT. Just GREAT. Seriously, watching the videos the past 2 hours has been awesome. Please, please keep these videos up after the competition is done. Remember, when people want to know how FILTER is done, they’re going to come to YOUR videos. And by keeping them up, we’re...

Saturday Night Contest - Filtering Out Exposure

I've got a 90-minute block cleared and I'm excited to see everything you guys came up with! And just remember, even if you don't win, you are helping forward the art of magic. You're making it harder for people to find secrets, and that's a noble goal. So before I even look at the videos and...

    Creating FILTER (and other magic)

Maybe it's not so regrettable. I spend so much time creating magic...I think my performances might suffer. For me, not enough practice doing that. Both are important.

    Creating FILTER (and other magic)

With Vertigo, at first, I just wanted to balance the box on the cards. But RIGHT after I did, the idea for doing the converse came right to me. It happened so fast. Wish that happened more often! :)

    Creating FILTER (and other magic)

That's interesting. I wonder whether any magic ideas have just 'come to me' when I wasn't thinking about the art....guess I'll be on the lookout for that...

    Creating FILTER (and other magic)

YEah, there's so much great stuff in old magazines. Right now Greg Wilson has a #1 trick on Penguin, a download...but he published it for free in MAGIC magazine a year ago. Great resource. Agreed.

I guess this is a risk we have to take!

Saturday Night Contest - Filtering Out Exposure

Somebody even thought the method of FILTER was an extra quarter sewn onto my vest! I'm super-curious to see what methods you guys come up with. And because I'll be judging the contest, let me give you a tip: I really like the fake explanation videos that start out serious and plausible...and...

    Creating FILTER (and other magic)

Some tricks come to me fast and easy. Like Vertigo. It took me a minute to figure out how to balance the card box on the cards. And then just a second to figure out how to balance the cards on the card box. But FILTER was different. I’ve been working on the Coin-Through-Glass tricks for...

My Philosophy of Creating and Sharing Magic Tricks

Asher, We're not the only ones! Lots of great magician/musicians out there. We should start a website. :) I hear what you're saying about performers not understanding creations, though. I remember feeling that way when I wrote this play back in college that got performed. And I was fighting with...

My Philosophy of Creating and Sharing Magic Tricks

William, those are some pretty intense rules! I wonder what the magic industry would be like if everybody followed them. Gosh, I guess we'd have fewer, but better, performances.

My Philosophy of Creating and Sharing Magic Tricks

Hello friends. :) Now that theory11 has put my name out there a bit, a couple of you have sent me messages asking about my magic background and about my philosophy of tricks. Well, here are the basics: I got into magic around 4 or 5. My grandparents had the best collection of David Copperfield...

    Vertigo.

You'll be able to change decks. You'll have to go to Office Max to get more of this one 'thing', but the trickiest specialty item--the one that you can't find at Office Max or almost anywhere else--comes with the DVD. And it's very very sturdy and easily reusable.

    Vertigo.

It can be done with pretty much any deck of cards. Even with t11's Monarchs. (Though, doing it with the monarchs will require one extra step...) After I get a pack of Monarchs, i'll upload a video...
