I also think that you are too good looking to get bad results from your experitment.I have seen psychology experiments on TV where they take a beautiful looking girl and put her in a fat suit and send her out on the street with hidden camers.Just asking directions she got two way different responds from the plubic from being a beautiful woman and than is a fat suit.
Second off most people might be stupid but that are kind.When they see it being filmed they might be kind and not say anything bad on camera.
So find some fat pimple face 15 year old and try it again with a hidden acamera.
Third is yes the general plubic dosen't know good magic from bad magic,other wise 95% of all working magicians wouldn't get any gigs would they.
