Beginner to Card Flourishing

Hey Guys :)

I've been looking at some flourishes, and I was freaked by the tornado cut, it aspired me to try this stuff out. What do you guys suggest as in dvds and playing cards, best suited for this stuff?

And is their any dvds teaching the tornado cut?

While flourishing is not my main focus here is what I own and would recommend. "Dangerous" by Daniel Madison has stuff for beginners and experts alike. His style has a great flow to it and alot of his moves are interchangeable between flourishes. Genesis v.1 is for beginners but does not have too many multi-packet cuts. "Trilogy" by DB2 is what I started with and was way over my head but with time and determination nothing is out of your reach. Just remember that when you're starting out these experts make this stuff look a lot easier than it is. Have patience and make friends with your pause button. I don't know where tornado is taught but I'm sure a number of people here do. Good luck on your journey!

thank you! Will definitely focus more on this after exams (wish me luck) so give a bout 2 weeks!

The tornado cut DVD is no longer in print, but if you google, 'Tornado Cut Ashford Knietel' and click the video from dailymotion, that is the Tutorial by Ashford himself. I guarantee that you will struggle A LOT with this, but don't get dis-hearted, it's a very hard cut.

Get Genesis v1, here on T11, It's the best quality beginners flourishing DVD out there, and the teaching is amazing. Basics are important... After this you should either get Genesis v2, The Trilogy by dananddave, The System by dananddave, Papercuts by chris hestnes.

Just search each of these and see what 'type' of cardistry you like. For example, you might like Chris Hestnes's spinning packets, or Andrei Jikh's fast Twirls, or Dnd's multi-packet cuts... you choose.

Thanks! Any suggestions on cards? you see I would get a pack of sentinels from theory 11, but the shipping cost to bring it to the UK is absurd. Any suggestions?

For multi packet cuts I would recommend a thicker stock. Casino cards are great. Since you're in the UK maybe check on Fournier playing cards. Check Kardwell.com. There is a large selection of cards and they are an international company. Once you get better and learn to relax your grip and trust the cards your preference might change but for me learning with stiff cards helped. Bicycle Masters from E are great too and are reasonably priced but you'll get hit with the shipping. Good luck and remember to be patient. The people you'll be learning from in videos and DVDs have been at this for a while but all of them started out as beginners just like you.

p.s. A small piece of advise... When you practice and you're standing up, be standing next to your bed or a table or couch so when you drop the cards (and you will drop the cards) you don't have to keep bending all the way to the ground to pick them up.

thanks so much guys, and yeah I'm pretty sure I've dropped atleast 40 packets on the tornado cut on the floor, you would think I would learn, I bought the Genesis v1, lets see how this goes :)
