Hey I was just wondering if anyone kows of some magic text book type stuff online for free. Obviously it wont be as good as a normal txt book you pay for such as "card college" for example. But I just want some simple stuff I can read up on online to make me a better magician. Thank you

There are magic books which are currently public domain - such as S. W. Erdnase's Expert at the Card Table.

However, be leery about the stuff you find online advertised as "Free". Often times it's crap from people who don't actually know anything, or it's not actually legal.

Here's a tip, though - Many sites Theory11, Ellusionist and I believe Penguin have things they give away for free - usually when you sign up for their newsletter. The Wire here has free stuff as well.

Joshua Jay released a nice book on magic theory for free as well. Magic In Mind is the title of that.

I'd check out your local library, as they will most likely have the Royal Road to Card Magic, Expert Card Technique and Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic. Also, libraries can transfer in-between each other, so even if your particular library does not have the book you are looking for, as long as it's in their system, they are usually able to get it. You should also check out what ChristopherT recommended from Vanishing Inc's website and download Magic In Mind.

Also depending on where you live your local SAM or IBM group might have a lending library as well

Here's my compilation of legal free stuff:

1) Royal road to card magic : has been made available for free by the online retailer who previously sold it. Also the same retailer was giving away expert card technique for free too. However, I do not know if it was a limited time offer. I just read about it at the Cafe but did not check since my library had both of them and no one bothered to borrow them so they are always free.

2) Theory 11 free beginner material: This comes in second place. (NOT THE WIRE MATERIAL)

3) Free material on the wire: G. Clarke's Fate is great but I could be biased, I have enjoyed his material since Devious. Anyway this one, you have to look for ratings and reviews but it has some great stuff you have to look hard.

4) Ellusionist beginner material: I personally did not like this because it has not been updated since forever, the tricks taught are held back and are supposed to make you buy a beginner magic dvd which teaches tricks in public domain which you can anyway learn for free online. Again, just my opinion.
