Two videos in the media section have 'Cardistry with a deeper meaning' in the short description of their videos.

Which brings me to a question: What DOES give cardistry a deeper meaning?

Is it the music? Is it the speed of the flouris(es)? Is it something different or hasn't been done yet?

Personally, and take this with a grain of salt as I don't watch many, but I have never seen a video of 'cardistry' having a deeper meaning. I think it would take something that has not yet been done to give it genuine meaning.

Getting a deeper message across to an audience is extremely tough in Cardistry, as there really isn't much meaning behind cards moving. However, it's the aspects of a video other than the moves itself that can give it a deeper meaning as opposed to just another video with moves and music; that's just a performance video. To have a deeper meaning, you must have a story you want to tell. This can be done with proper cinematography, a setting, a script, post-production, etc. An easy way to give it a deeper meaning is to use narration, much like this video that won our MC2 Competition. It is a step in the right direction in terms of breaking away from the normal Cardistry video that uses the same cookie-cutter formula. I feel that with more originality in the community you will start to see videos that are more personal and more reflective of themselves as opposed to "let me film a few moves to this sick dubstep/rap song and post it on YouTube". If people want to see Cardistry progress they need to start being more original, make it more personal, and try to connect with their audience. Another thing I notice a lot is what my good friend Jon Ramirez told me one time, it's come to the point where people are now creating moves based "what's sellable" instead of "what [you] personally like". There is still much more to be said on this topic as I feel really strongly about breaking away from the cookie-cutter formula you see in most videos today. Things need to change for it to progress.

I absolutely agree that people are creating moves just for the sake of putting them on the wire etc. I feel that once someone has created a move, the immediate thought is to sell it. But this is not how it should be. You should actually spend time with it and develop it before you even think about selling it. More importantly, not all flourishes (and tricks) have to be sold. If it's as good as you think it is, then use it.

Excellently put.
