Chop cups, blades made to look realistic, but are infact safe for use by performers..

I posted in reguards to a video in wich a magician and for an audience volunteer an effect goes horribly wrong... continuing with performance safety, any illusion that involves blades or a chop cup of any sort for an illusion, is there anyway to make the prop (blades...ect) look real but are infact safe for use... by the performer/assistants... so that nothing "goes wrong"...?

If I wanted a chop cup, or a blade for an effect, could I have it made so safety would be taken into account for myself or my staff?

why would a chop cup be dangerous in any way?

Collapsible blades/spikes?

If you mess up nobody is hurt...if you don't they can be made to look realistic.

If it jams...and you mess up...just don't mess up?
just a thought.


I think the props used, or method conceived, should be sure-fire. If there is any possibility that something could go wrong, maybe don't perform that effect?

Also, if you're afraid something is going to go wrong then there is a better chance of something going wrong. Know that you're going to succeed and nobody is going to get hurt.

A chop cup isn't anything to do with cutting or "chopping", it's called that after it was popularised by a magician who used the stage name of "Chop Chop". I think his real name was Al Wheatley or something like that.

ok, im glad im not the only one that was confused by that one.... i was like... how can a chop cup hurt? i mean, paul daniels might throw a lemon at you, but even that wont hurt that bad.... the orange might though

Hmm I do believe you are talking about smash and stabs right? Chop cups are a device that holds out an object in a cup. Now safe smash and stabs, I second the Kuffs routine, I think Matthew Mello has a dvd out on the subject, also there is Dangerous monte which I have heard is 100 percent safe.
