Does anybody have any suggestions for good coin gimmicks that I could make or buy fairly cheaply?

how about nail a hole into a coin by one edge and tie a rubber band to it then pin the other side to the middle of the back of your shirt,then put a jacket on.
I know I Know its cheap and simple to make but thats what he asked for.
p.s If you hide another quarter someplace strange in advance you'll have a miracle.

there are lots of gimmicked coins to consider so you might want to be a little more specific... as for cheap... well the old addage applies here i think, which is "you get what you pay for" more often then not the cheaper the price the cheaper the quality. if you are going to get the "cheaper" gimmicks i would recommend you go with Johnson coins the quality is pretty good, not Jaime Schoolcraft or Todd Lassen good, but still decent enough to pass through Laymen.
No matter whaat your budget is, cheap or poor, you should definetly get Scotch and Soda.
