i bought a double sided half dollar and it turns out that its a half dollar in a shell. Shells are expensive so i would like to know how to get the coin out of the shell, i think its glued in.

The bang ring will only work if it's not glued in. Depending on who manufactured the coin, it could be stuck together using something that fuses the two metals together meaning you won't get it apart. On the other hand, it could be stuck together using super glue. If it's super glue then soaking it in nail polish remover, which is acetone, would do the trick. It's very likely that the coin has been cut down to insert into the shell so, even if you get them apart, you can put the shell over any other coins and the cut down coin won't look very good. Still, if it was cheap and you don't mind taking a chance on ruining it, soak it in acetone and see what happens.

I had a steel core quarter and I just dropped it on the floor acouple times and that did the trick.
