Coming Back?

Hi all! (I'm not sure this is exactly the right place to post, but it looked right so...yeah)

I haven't been here in a while ('bout a year?) and I've almost given up on magic. Recently, though, I've had a sudden burst of inspiration, and I feel the magic bug coming back to bite me again.

So, I just wanted to "PROCLAIM MY PRESENCE" and ask you guys: How do you suggest I get back into magic? It's already happened to me a few times, and it gets harder every time, so I'm wondering what exactly I'm doing wrong?

Thanks guys! :D

(sorry to the mods if this is in the wrong place)

I would say that going over all the material you already know and refreshing your memory would be a good start.

If you want something new to learn try looking through the 1-on-1 section for something inexpensive. What books/dvds do you already have?

And what magic do you perform? (did you perform...)

Cards
Coins
Closeup
Parlour..
anything else.

Hm, okay.

I usually did a lot of card magic. Attempted flourishing but failed (my thumb seems to be too small??), and I also used to like magic that was really offbeat, like with geek magic, and the like. Stuff that's truly impromtu is what I really love.

But anyways, yar, I'll look through everything again. Thanks! :)

Your thumb probably isn't too small, but if it's shorter than normal you'd have to learn how to adjust. I don't do much flourishing, so any advice would have to be from someone who does it flawlessly.

Impromptu, cards and geek/shock/bizzare/off the radar magic.

Wayne Houchin released Thread since you left a year ago. Swallow a length of thread and pull it out of your eye, it's not impromptu though.(thank you Draven)

Impromptu...any sleight based coin magic is impromptu, if you practice with different sized coins. If you learn/remember a good bit of sleights you can create impromptu card magic all day. Take a plot you like (card to impossible location, cards across, torn and restored...etc) and just play with it until you have something you like.

Just a few suggestions. Maybe check out This thread.

I go through stages too Dominus, i don't think it's a bad thing to walk away once in a while.

Magic has so many facets, if you're bored with cards, try coins. Bored with coins try ropes, try bizarre magic. I don't know if you own it but Mark Wilson's Complete Course Of Magic has bits of everything, you can work through the chapters and see what you like.

The fact that you came back displays a love for the art surely.

I get this all the time, every now and then I just have a month or so where I don't do magic at all. I don't perform, I don't learn anything, I don't watch anything. But I always come back to it. This is how I know I never want it to be my job, because then I will be forced to do it to make a living and that will destroy my passion for it.

So, it's nice to take a break. You can have a deep love for something and still take a breather. As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder!

Welcome back!

Awesome. I can edit my post for clarity.

Again, I didn't know...and had heard about '2 methods' or something when everyone reviewed it.

I figure if I wanted to do thread I should wait a year and let everyone who bought it on impulse to stop messing with it. :)
