You don't need anything for this particular effect but you do for some of the other effects on the DVD.

so its just sleight of hand? thanks for the reply, im only really looking for a haunted deck without loops or magnets.

it really is not that good. its just a rising card effect saying its a variation of the haunted pack

It is pure sleight of hand, although in my opinion it isn't one of the better examples of a haunted deck routine and is one of the weaker effects on the DVD.

It uses a lot of cover and is nowhere near as impressive as gimmicked haunted deck routines (or other impromptu ones).

If you bought the DVD for this effect I think you would be dissapointed, if you wanted to use the other material on the DVD as well it would be a good purchase.
