Distortion questions go in here!

ABSOLUTELY! Think about what is happening here...they are seeing two pips visually slide out of two existing ones on the card and slowly, openly and visually move into place and then being handed the card for inspection. In fact, there's so much to handle that they usually completely forget that the 4 - that they just saw plainly and openly undergo some crazy metamorphosis into a 6 - is now in their hand (I usually have to remind them. It's great :D ).

!!

I've performed this in public probably a dozen times since I got it and each and every time, after the change finished and they flip over their changed card, the main subject (who was holding the card) has been completely silent. They have NO idea what just happened. For me, it's great when they laugh at the impossibility of what just happened or scream or throw the cards into the air and run away. But the sense of complete bewilderment in these people's eyes...priceless.

I really do highly recommend this trick. It's a winner, and something that you're likely to be amazing people with for a long, long time.

You won't have to buy the DVD again, just the additional gimmick for $9.95.

In order to buy the replacement gimmick, you have to submit a ticket, and provide your order number -- it's detailed in this article, http://www.theory11.com/news/news_article.php?NewsID=19.

Wayne Houchin was actually a consultant to Cyril. The "transformation" effect that Cyril performs uses the moving pips gimmick that Distortion does. On the page to buy Distortion, it states that "Cyril (famed Japanese magician) performed a variation of this effect on national television." Distortion provides a different handling for the moving pips gimmick than Transformation.

The Distortion gimmick is shoddy in my opinion. There's a gimmick called Moving Points from Japan. It retails for $15 and under and comes in a variety of different cards. It is made a whole lot better than the Distortion gimmick and is actually better looking and mechanically smoother than Distortion. The Distortion does have some unique to it that the Moving Points does not but a slight change in handling can easily facilitate this discrepancy. Even though a a DVD is supplied with Distortion I do not feel that it really justifies a rerelease of an effect that is almost half the price of Distortion, a lot better made, and has been out long before Distortion (though the concept is not new for either gimmicks since a variation of this can be found in 5x5 Japan and may have seen release in another form even earlier than that but I do not know).

hey, so with distortion... is this only using either a red or a blue bycicle deck?
does this only include 1 gimmicked card or is the whole deck included?

Also, do you highly recommend this DVD? or do you think i should get something similar as Moving Pips?

I don't think it's worth it to get it with the DVD but Theory 11 is kind of the only place to get the gimmick (even though it's the inferior version of the gimmick) so you're kind of stuck having to pay $25 for it. The Moving Point card is kind of hard to find especially if you do not have a brick and mortar magic shop around you since the online dealers apparently do not have these gimmicks. I believe Moving Point is the version that Cyril did on TV. The version in 5x5 Japan looks great but it's not as direct and requires you to use a gaffed card box. Not very clean. Luckily I have my own source for these Moving Point cards and have a good amount of backup gimmicks in various card values and pips.

You get to choose whether you want the gimmick for a red or blue bicycle deck. However, you only get the gimmick, not the entire deck.

I would recommend this DVD, as it comes with the Moving Pips gimmick, and also teaches several diverse and dynamic ways to handle and perform effects with the Moving Pips gimmick, "Distortion" by Wayne Houchin, "Visually Yours" by Michael Ammar, and a mix of the two, "Visual Distortion."
