I want to ask if i should watch finish a dvd and practice or practice during the dvd

Do both, watch the dvd first without anything to hand to get an overall summary. Then watch it again following along. I think you should follow along as many times as it takes (duh), then practice from memory.
After a while watch the dvd again without anything to hand to look for any bad habits picked up or to iron out any mistakes you've been making. Hope this more than answers your question
