What's up fellas,
Next week I'm going to be hanging out with my mentor, Ed Ellis, and I have just received confirmation that we are going to shoot an interview for Theory 11 and our members. Those of you who have gotten on the Wire have probably seen a few of his videos floating around or perhaps you have caught him at a convention lecturing near you.

Ed Ellis, also known as the "World's Fastest Hands", has nearly 30 years of full time working experience. He has performed at the Magic Castle from 1999-2011, performed at Ceasar's Palace, lectured at Blackpool in 2010, and has released 10 DVD's.

He values theatrical presentation and tries to incorporate that into each of his performances.

A lot of you who are into music will enjoy the fact that Ed won the title of "Best Drummer on the U.S. East Coast" in 2009. He is also a highly studied actor who played a role in "Shawshank Redemption". I know I just aged myself with that movie because half of you probably haven't seen it. He was also in "Born on the Fourth of July", "Running with the Devil" and "Paramedics".

You can check Ed out at www.edellismagic.com
and get a feel for what types of questions you might want to ask him.

Your questions can pertain to magic, acting, or the business side of magic. We will only have time for about 10 questions. Any questions that are similar I'll try to merge together when I pick the final interview questions.

Don't be afraid to pick his brain and think outside the box.

Shawskank is SUCH a good movie!

1. How difficult is it balancing several different skills, and being proficient in each one? What made you want to be all three of those things?
2. "World's Fastest Hands" is quite the title, what kind of effects do you perform to uphold this title, and are there effects you use even though they don't fall under that category?

What is your creative process?

After looking at your Wire contributions it looks like you have improved on classic principles and made them your own. Where do you find your inspiration?

1) When did you begin performing magic.
2) How did you get into magic?
3) Who or what were your influences?
4) When did you get your first TV exposure, what did you perform?
5) Do you see anything wrong with how people are learning magic today? Dvds that are easily being uploaded on to torrent sites than written in books. People can look up exposure via internet.
6) A) Was confidence ever an issue with you that you couldn't go on and perform because it got the best of you? B) What would your advice be to a person who suffers from this problem?
7) Will you be lecturing in NY anytime in the future?

You know what, if this were a Saturday night contest there would be over 50 replies because there would be a deck of cards or a free download to win.
I see threads like these posted with little to no replies and my view on the future of the community diminishes a little. I don't know Ed, but him and Rick are taking their time out to help the community to share his knowledge from being a working professional for over 30 years. This is gold for anyone here trying to become a working professional. Get your questions out guys.

Well said Danny, Ed has tons of real world working experience and has been in the trenches for close to 30 years. Please don't waste this opportunity. If you have some type of question that you really want some advice on from someone who does this every day...get your questions out here. Keep them coming fellas.

Every performer has faced rejection at some point, what do you do when someone says "no thanks" to seeing magic? Do you press them to watch, or simply thank them for their time and walk away?

Which do you feel is more important, creating or performing? Can one be successful even if he only uses one original piece in his show, and the rest are things that have either been around forever (that everyone uses) or things other magicians have created?

Hey Guys,
The interview is now posted in the Media section. Please check it out. The original footage / interview was close to a half hour long and I had to keep chopping some things to get it down to a decent size. And...no busting on me as I am not one who enjoys being in front of the camera but gave it a go any how. Ha Ha.

I received a package in the mail today that had a phoenix deck and an Ed Ellis magic DVD. None of which I had any clue were being shipped to me. From what I understand, I got it for posting questions in this thread for the interview.
I just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to Rick Everheart and Ed Ellis for this unexpected surprise. It definitely made my day!

I know we had some people contact me and ask if Ed would do another interview section on Restaurant work. I'll have to see what his schedule is like. I know December is slammed for most performers. Maybe in January or Feb.
