I practice cardistry alot and drop my cards on the table frequently. Because dropping them shortens their life I want to use a material that I can drop them on and still keep them relatively clean. I see that blackjack and poker tables are felt(so the cards can glide well), so I want to know if I could go to an art shop, get a piece of felt and lay it on my table and practice cardistry over it. If I drop my cards on felt, will it harm them less compared to if I drop cards on my table?

EDIT: Actually, wouldn't any soft material(cotten, polyester) work also? As long as its not a hard surface that causes particles to grind against the card surface.

I don't wanna spend too much money if possible. A piece of felt from an art shop is a couple bucks and I might even have a piece in my house right now.

The cards glide a lot on speed cloth. You won't get the same glide unless you pay for it, and judging from your needs, it's too much cost for too little need. Try velveteen or micro suede.

I dont realy need the cards to glide well. I just want them to last longer by not grinding against a hard table top when I drop them and pick them up.

I also think that...it also allows you to pick them up very quickly...
