Heres a story for you guys...

over the summer i went on a youth mission trip with my church, we traveled to Washington DC to help out the homeless there. while i was there i had a coupla magicical expeirences...read the stories...afterwards i need your help!

one of the days we were there, some of theyouth groups were supposed to go help out at a "festival" for some underprivledged kids from all-over DC. The festival was to take place at Haines Point, very close to "the awakening" sculpture. There was supposed to be 2 moon bounces, a stage for music, food, and assorted games. so everyhting was on its way, along with the kids. the moon bounces were set up, and i was one of the lucky ones who was supposed to help out and work on them. so shortly before the kids arrive, the park polics pull up, and ask to see the permits for the 2 moon bounces and th eportable stage. well they didnt have any, so the 3 main sources of entertainment were shut down. that stunk. as everyone moped around, chris had an idea. he said that me and him should set up a table and do some tricks. seeing as i have a deck of cards (in this case 2) with me where-ever i go, we were in luck. he set off to find some string and scissors (for cut and restored) and some other stuff for our little table. IN the mean time i prepared and sent off some people to gather up some kids for our first show. we were an instant sucess. providing entertainment for the kids helped the program alot due to the fact that the other stuff was shut-down, and we were thanked several times for doing it. in the end we were a big hit, and got some amazing reactions!

story 2 of the trip..
fter working hard all week, trying to help the many homeless and under-privledged kids of our nations capital, the mission staff wanted us to get a taste of what life was like to be homeless. so heres what they did.
they took our youth group (8 people) and gave us $6 dollars a person. they then told us that we had to take the bus from where we were (Colorado & 16th) downtown to Dupont Circle. Once there We had to pool together our money, but dinner for us and 2 other real homeless people, and buy them each a pair of socks. Now that is pretty much impossible on $6 a person. We needed to find a way to make money. Once at Dupont circle, we needed to figure out how to do so...the first words were (hey brad, do you hae any magic stuff with you?" and the answer was of course "i have a deck of cards..." so they sent me to the middle of dupont circle...while there i was supposed to earn as much money as i could to help pay for dinner and socks. i would go up to people, tell them who i am and what i was doing in dc. then i would show them a few tricks....and well this sytsem works quite well....i ended up making $22 over the course 45 minutes...we and the homeless ate well that night, and we bought 3 pairs of socks, we also had money left over that we donated to the mission. overall that day was a sucess, along with the total mission trip, and my magic!

ok i hoped you liked the stories...now i need your help.... after the trip i really was inspired to help the homeless that were closer to home. well after a little while, the ideas went on the back-burner becasue it was summer, and i wanted to have fun. but now that the summmer is over, i have been thinking more about what i can do to help. what im might do is to continue doing magic, but now intstead of keeping the money i earn, donate it to the local homeless shelter. i need some more ideas, and i was wondering if you guys had any?

Thanks for reading!

Wow! Thats a really good cause! I did have one idea(Maybe you already thought of it)...You could go around your school/office, and do some magic for teachers, friends, and other people around the school and ask them to donate money when you perform. Also, you could talk to your prinipal/boss, and see if you can set up a fundraiser with fun things to do. You could do a magic show and do a stall with your magic tricks to try and get some money...charge admission(Not too expensive) and serve food and drinks. Also, get games people can play, but charge like a dollar or two(or how ever much that is where you live).

Get funky with it!
Good luck,

Close up is fine. You could(If you do a fundrasier) walk around with a bucket roped to your belt(Or your beck :D ) and say, 'Donate money and get your mind blown!' ...Or something like that.

Ya know, one time I did a bill change for a couple of homeless guys and gave it to them. I took a one dollar bill, did Greed with it (i have an alternate ending where you can unfold the twenty in the end to show a full twenty), once they examined the twenty, I decided it wasn't fair, os I split it into two tens and gave one to each of them. I then went home with only a one, but with a big smile on my face knowing that each of them just experienced real magicl.

Hey that's awesome! Thanks for sharing. I love to hear about how God uses His people in unexpected ways!

It might be neat to find a place like a soup kitchen in your area. Go and do table magic sometime. Homeless people don't often get to see good magicians live. What a blessing it can be just to be with them, and sharing some time with them. Very cool.
