Secrets of Conjuring and Magic: Or How to Become a Wizard by Robert Houdin is a pretty good. It was written in the mid 1800's and the first 30-ish or 40-ish pages talks a bit about a brief history of magic. The rest are some of Robert Houdin's magic tricks and sleights. I used this book for my Extended Essay which is an essay I have to write in order to graduate high school.
Another really good one is Hiding the Elephant: How Magicians Invented the Impossible and Learned to Disappear by Jim Steinmeyer. This book shows a lot more regarding the multiple magicians over time from Harry Houdini to John Nevil Maskelyne. I also used this one for my Extended Essay. If you're looking for history, I think this one will be particularly helpful.
