Homepage Design Concept

Hey,

i would like your honest opinions on this.
Im totally redesigning my site and this is a concept ive been drawing in class for some time now:

http://mikkparg.wippiespace.com/images/kodukas4.jpg

The page is currently a bit in English and a bit in my own language but you can understand where im going with the page it selfe.

This is the second page(from the navigation)(Minust), the page that talks about me. It also has a picture viewer at the bottom that is going to be driven by jquery or mootools+ Lightbox.

I will keep you posted with the other pages...
In the meanwhile drop me a pm or give your opinions in the topic!

Dont hold anything back, i take your word and try to make it better with that.

Thanks in advance,

Mikk

I dont know how much effort you have put into the spelling etc. but I think you should make it 100% correct before you put it on the internet. It makes you look way better. :) Otherwise nice :D

I think you are using to many fonts. I'm not that keen on the colour scheme either. I also wouldn't recommend using ipsum for showing people. Get some content in there even if it's from another biography.

I do like your navigation tho.

Ill take out some fonts then. Man i wish CSS3 would be cool by now, it would make my life easyer :)

Anyway i will make some changes to the text. The navigation though was ment to be like that. Its just who i am and i like alittle crooked stuff...

EDIT: Ive made the fonts more similar. I made the heading fonts the same and the inner fonts the same.

The navigation (links at the top) look fine, although straightening the text out to match the angle of the banner for it couldn't hurt.

The 1px border surrounding this display pictures (the angled ones on Minust and the one on Avaleht) should be darker. You need to make the border color a closer match to the general body background color. Maybe try #222222 or #181818, if you want a black-scale color.

Other than that, I really like it. Will the entire/overall site be driven by Flash, or simply CSS/HTML?

Ben

edit:
Set the body text to

body {font-align: justify;}

You might also consider using a sans-serif font instead of a serif for the main text, and maybe a serif font (such as garamond on all caps) for the headings/titles.

Hey,

The site will be driven by Xhtml and CSS.

http://mikkparg.wippiespace.com/kodukas/

this is how far ive gotten right now, with the code. Ive made some changes to the inner part of the site. Ive added a video instead of text to make the mainpage have much more info.

Its a bit offset right now because of the way i managed the background. I will be fixing that.

After messing about with the code for about 4hours i scrapped this idea.
A pity because its a good concept, but it isnt practical.

So here is what im going to do.
Im going to start logging my way along making a website.
This should, in my mind, be informative. Im also going to explain how to get inspired and what to look out for in a website.

So im going to begin in the next post...

Ok, so a lot of people ask "Were to start?" .

To start you should need to get some software.

Some software to get:

* Photoshop
* Dreamweaver(you can also use Notepad++)
* Flash(is not required)
* Illustrator(is not required)

Internet Explorer 6,7
Safari
Opera
Firefox
Google Chrome

So Photoshop is used to make the design.

Good places to learn PS:

http://psd.tutsplus.com/
http://psdlearning.com/

and so on you will get more of them from those sites!

Dreamweaver or Notepad++ is used to write the code to the site.

http://net.tutsplus.com/

This is the best one i know, i dont really visit anything else.
You can get more sites from there too!

Flash is used to make some apps like video players and such. Theory uses alot of flash. Illustrator is used to make vector images.

http://vector.tutsplus.com/ - a good site to get tutorials and info on illustrator and vector.

The numeral internet viewing programs are for testing your homepage.
People use different programs and you need to make your page good in everyone of them(IE6 is not required but its good one to make, although its a nightmare).

I will be searching for inspiration for my new design so i will be updating this topic!

Hope this helped!
