Looking for a single card trick DVD? Not Here! With over 3 hours of footage, Joseph Barry has crammed over 20 routines, moves, subtleties, and thoughts onto these babies. Be ready to be fooled and fooled badly. Joe’s effects will fly by laymen and magicians alike! These effects are bold and deviously clever.
The material on these discs is best suited for card magicians who have a little bit of groundwork under their belt. These discs are not for beginners, yet the effects are not out of reach for those of us who are willing to put in some time and practice.
There are some sleight free / self workers, but for some of the more advanced routines you may wish to have some working knowledge of a classic force, or a substitute force, culling a few cards, stacking, gambler’s cop, top palm, and even lapping for one routine. Those things considered do not shy away from this set.
Most of the effects will require and work best while seated at a table among your guests. These effects would be great for a close up performance / parlor style show. Unfortunately, I am more of a strolling close up worker and some of the routines that would require some previous set up would not fit my arsenal.
There are a few routines that during your performance, you will be looking at the cards face up, ribbon spread, right in front of the spectators, which for me seemed like a small negative, but the way Joe does it, it looks as if it doesn’t even matter and the spectators believe it is part of the haphazard style. There are some outstanding mental pieces included in this set as well. Very strong!
A combination of Dani DaOrtiz and Lennart Green might be a good indication of what Joseph Barry has to offer. Joe’s relaxed, carefree attitude allows his card magic to shine as his spectators “think” that they are controlling most of the situations. He has a very poised and “likeable” personality, which would make it difficult for any spectators to become hecklers. Joe is very professional and fun to watch and is a great entertainer.
The teaching and camera work is spot on and of high quality. Alakazam and Peter Nardi have really put out a nice set for Joseph Barry’s debut. The packaging for the 2-disc set is very nice and comes with a beautiful slipcase as well.

There are some definite gems on these discs as well as a few fillers, but for the price, you are getting a plethora of card material. You’re bound to find some devastating pieces to take your card magic to the next level. I’m positive the magic community is going to see and hear more about Joseph Barry’s card work in the near future.
