Hey guys I was playing around with patter to use the snap change as a stand alone trick and here is what I have.

(Show the back of the card to the spectator) (First Person) Hi I'm Michael and I am a magician/hypnotist do you believe in hypnotism? (Same for yes or no) Ok good were gonna try a hypnotism experiment on you on 3 you will see the card 3 of hearts. 1-2-3 (Flip card over) See you have been hypnotized the card I'm holding is actually the Ace Of Spades. Watch on 1 you will see the real card I am holding the Ace Of Spades 3-2-1 (Initiate Change) Then do the clean-up and you have a great little trick. And yes I have tested it out and it does a killer job reaction wise.
Tell me what you think.

Well, I guess it would be an ok trick as an opener, but you wouldn't get very good reactions if it is a follow-up to another trick. That sounds fun and easy, I think I'll try that out.

This is very creative and I like the routine a lot. :) I think you could actually work on it to make it longer though. I love the idea of it, but I think you should expand on it a little more. Great thinking though. :)

Thanks Doug I do say more when I perform it but I hate typing so I trimmed the fat to give the basis of it.

Also to the post above yours. You don't need to use this as an opener a simple spread cull could fix that. Whats nice about this is group performance. Say to everyone that an good Hypnotist could only put a small percentage on people into a trance but you are a great hypnotist and will try the entire group.

I think it's a stupid effect that's not really applicable. It insults the intelligence of the audience, and unless you have a good snap change, is rather unpractical for large groups.

Look into real mentalism effects if you'd like to get into that art.

I agree with Ben.

Everyone will realize you're just saying a "script" and it's not really hypnosis.
Luke Jermay has some good work on "causing people to forget what the card they saw."
Think Double Lift and fancy verbal patter especially with a six of clubs and nine of spades on top.

(this idea is as old as the hills, it's lukes patter that makes it unique.....so i dont think it's constitutes as exposure)

Seriously though, you want your patter to be somewhat believable in my opinion.

The idea itself, of using hypnosis theme, is KILLER. I worked it out last year, and then later found it in Steven Youell's Weapons of Mass Destruction lecture notes ( amazing notes by the way!).

I disagree with the part of them thinking its a joke. Delivering the patter nicely is needed ( as well as in any performance. Simply saying "ok now your hypnotised, its the ace of spades" will make the reactions much less ).

Luke Jermay's stuff are different.

Cheers,

Hmmm,
Maybe your audience is 13.

Adults will think "aww cute patter" or "this guy is full of it"
I doubt that people are "freaked out" by the patter but more so by the realibility of marlo's snap change.

It's a tested true effect.

The reason I have a quarrell with it, because it's just not -logical- patter. This matters a lot in the real world once you make it past your cafeteria and three year old sister.

And in all honesty, there really isn't a correlation between the two.

Luke Jermays approach is a 1,000x better.
Cause the spectator to forget what card their holding.

He also has a nice effect with a billet and a few words.

The reason I say all this is because i think that you are cheaping out hypnosis.
You can do something much stronger with that same idea other than a @#$#@ color change.

Just my two cents and I hope you appreciate it.

Matt
