Spiritually, either you're a creative artist, or you're not.

Maybe, you don't know. But, everyone else who matters in the industry knows.

Do you hang out with your heroes? Would you be proud if they were to see that you were doing other people's material while claiming artistic excellence?

Would you feel ashamed if they expressed their disapproval?

Ok sorry but I legit didn't follow a word of that. I kinda see what you are saying, and it definitely goes along with what these guys have said before.

This thread has kind of been answered and twindled into a major argument. Thanks though!

I guess if I ever created an effect and saw another magician (hopefully famous) perform it, I would never be 100% happy, and that's obvious.
But a little bit of acknowledging should make me pretty (again, not completely, that's impossible) relaxed.
Say if someone says something like "This effect is a small one, and I kinda borrowed the idea from Lord Magic and sort of developed my own handling in it. Now watch closely."
There! No need for any lawsuits!
But remember, if the learning is not authorised, as in maybe some DVD or book the creator put out, they will never be very happy. But we can atleast acknowledge them.
