Pretty cool, nice find.
Agreed, tumbleweed, seems like it would be more like a look-what-I-can-do trick. I mean, I feel like the audience would just think, yeah, it's hidden, you're good with your hands. Where is the mysticism? the magic? but, nevertheless, a great utility to create that mysticism in other effects : )

Just so all of you know...

This isn't, and most likely wasn't, ever meant to be called a "trick". It IS a "look-what-I-can-do" sequence, just like ALL flourishing 'shows'.

This might be a stupid question with no answer... but... why does that type of magic exist?

It's not "magic". It's flourishing. It's not meant to instill wonder, but rather amazement.

It exists because some people hope to aspire to become good enough to travel and perform their flourishing acts for money. That simple.

and change your font color. while not impossible, it's annoying and strenuous to read.
