Lamar Magic Clubs first attempt!

This is Michael Fore and I's first attempt at creating and editing a magic video. This was our Advertisement video to attempt to recruit new members to the magic club. We are open to all criticisms and comments!!

Great vid. I think you will drum up some interest for sure.

I didn't have much time to reply to the other thread, but the course might be good for new kids because the course starts off pretty basic. I was thinking a DVD might be pretty interesting too (Like penguin's beginner dvd). Watch just one trick. Learn together, then everyone go home practice it, create a way to present it, practice it, and the next meeting, present it to each other. Perhaps take one person each week and critique the performance, pull it apart and have them represent the next week. That next week, have the person present, then watch another effect(or flourish) on the DVD, learn it together etc,

I suggest this because on your video, you obviously have some more adept card handlers, however EVERYONE, regardless of experience or skill level, can learn from taking simple effects and working on new/different/quality presentations (same with cardistry).

Great idea. Good luck with that. Let us know what you end up doing, as I think some will want to really learn and try something similar in their schools.

Thanks a lot for the compliments Justin! We all still consider ourselves beginners so that is wonderful to hear from a professional.

Ill definitely take your suggestion as to the use of DVD's into consideration, they are definitely a powerful teaching tool. Although i really like the idea of using books to begin with, for two reasons. One, it'll allow us to see quickly whether or not someone has real interest in the club. Two, one of the main goals of this club is to try and soften the drastic impact the internet and DVD's have had on younger magicians, we want to try to help them by showing them the strengths of having a mentor, reading the material, and really getting out and performing. Instead of the growing number of magicians who have relied solely on the internet and themselves to guide their path into magic, and thus found themselves down the wrong path.

Another main goal of this club, is for others to emulate us! We hope to inspire other young magicians to create clubs in their own community! We hope to have influenced other schools locally by the end of this year, and hopefully in more cities across the nation within the next few years!

So yeah, ill definitely keep everyone posted!

I quite liked the video actually, never seen that 4 ace vanish/reproduction before, that was nice. If you're going to learn from a book, get something like card college or anything like that, and you can work through the tricks in it like Justin suggested. Using a book encourages you to add a bit more personal style to things which suits what I think you're all trying to do well.

And then theres the discussion of whether learning from secondary sources limits your magic. You could ditch the learning from a book thing and focus entirely on creative magic, especially if you're going to have beginner magicians, it stops them to being limited only to methods they have seen and read about, and promotes creating their own. Particularly if you are going to have group sessions, you might produce a great group of creators

Please elaborate on what you mean by "creative magic." It seems like a cool idea, and we are definitely still open to suggestions on how w should go about running/teaching/learning from the magic club.
