I'm looking for a source for doing the old Water to Ink and back to Water type effect but it needs to work with a fairly large volume of water (roughly 1/2 a gallon).

Have you looked at the various clear/black/clear effect used for Hindu Sands / Sands of the Desert?
Found this link http://www.jaymattioli.com/newsite/sandz.htm where he sells the chemicals as refills. Not sure if he would sell them with the recipient without purchasing the sands effect.

I've always wanted to walk into the middle of a church and do that effect to their baptismal. Just for kicks and giggles...

The link to the video. . . well, it made no sense to me in that it certainly didn't show me what I'm looking for, just a kids homework assignment, it would seem.
That link to the guy making the Sands effect. . . DAMN! That's got to be the most expensive version of a $50.00 effect I've ever seen on the market. . . you know though, in all the years I did the Sands, I never used the color change.
There was a company I used to get things from many years ago, I thought it was promystic, who did this exact effect using 1 gallon jugs, but I can't find it.
If you scroll down past the video, there is a recipe ... You can do it yourself. No need to buy a magician's effect.

It seems like that page was badly translated, but you can get the general idea from it.
I've but glanced at the Blog but I'll see what I can find. . . never thought such an old effect would be this hard to get a solution or source to.
