Pariah - Daniel Madison

Hi Guys,

For those of you who think this trick is too good to be true, this review is for you.

I bought this trick mainly for the fact that it is a trick by Daniel Madison, and for some reason I've got all his stuff.

This is a good trick, but not all of it. The version I made up to try it out was the first version of the trick, whereas the trick description tells you a different way of making up the deck. its really up to you.

Basically, the effect with the normal Pariah deck is getting rid of the use of a force, and finding out the spectators card while it is in the middle of the deck which is in a box. In my opinion this is a bit pointless. I made it up before reading the effect, but oh well! you can however, which i like, is have them take the card, show it has disappeared from the deck and show its in your pocket.

The version I want to make up however, is the strongest effect I have ever had the pleasure of buying. The effect: the spec takes a card, writes ANY word on it, puts it back in the deck which is in the box, and the magician tells you what card it was, and the word. no forces no nothing. MAGIC!

The method is a bit tricky, and when I first performed this I was really afraid someone would catch me out. Just use a bit of misdirection.

Also, as the box is slightly dodgy, it can be slightly problamatic if you pull out an empty box ( if you have the trick you'll know what I mean)

All in all, I'd say that maybe this isn't worth the money, but maybe for a mentalist for the second effect, which is just awesome!

I hope you enjoy this very honest review, and you consider it as a fun thing to try out. You never know, it might be your thing.

So you're saying that, after they pick a card and return it to the deck, you can figure out what the card is with (method), but you don't think it's worth buying because it's Hard or easy to figure out, or what exactly? But along the same lines, doing that with a word written on it it's much better?

How difficult also would you say it is to do this? I hope you respond soon because I might burn through my Christmas money faster than I'd've hoped. ^^;; Thanks!

I found 'Pariah' simply clever and something that I love using.

I highly recommend it!

I'll see if I can post a review for it sometime.

But yes, once the card is inserted back in the deck, with little misdirection, you can obtain the card value/symbol and word.

Basically watch the Extractor dvd preview on alakazam and you will see the effect. I do not own Extractor but the effects look the same I cannot comment on the method however.

It just seems like you're, well, I don't know if this IS the method so I don't think I should say, but it SOUNDS to me that you're doing the (most primitive way to figure out what something has written on it).

I also remember the Extractor from a bit back and wanted the *beep* out of it. So with Pariah you can do the same exact thing without paying $100 and without the gimmick and with SoH in it's place?

Edit: Also can someone post a demo of them performing this? I have never seen one. Unless it's just the same as the extractor.

This deck mainly is in fact a mentalism deck so the version with the word packs a more powerful punch. To make the "just card" revelation more powerful I have them think of a card and take it out, I say so that that way they can show everyone else what their card is (if they're the only person I say to make sure that their card is in the deck). Then I have them write the card down on a piece of paper and as they do that I switch the deck for the gimmick. I say that magicians can do tricky things with decks so I only pull the deck half way out and have them slide their card in and close the box. Put the box in pocket. Got the card already. I tell them to hold the paper with their card on it to their chest, do a little mind reading patter, tada.

P.S. I may do a video soon
