So I was at a Halloween party Yesterday that my Girlfriends Aunt threw.
I was Asked to do magic by her aunt so I agreed, they even set up a table for me =]. I was doing magic from 7pm (when the party started) untill a bout 12am.

(of course just the same tricks for different people)

It went great , it was costume manditory so I was a Evil Harliquin.
The last people I preformed for want to hire me for their birthday. Its going to be a two hour walk around thing in Shakeys pizza Parlor.

SO I have three weeks to get some more tricks down,

Any suggestions, Is Colatteral any good? It had some stuff on it, i thought sounded GREAT

Also What a bout Power word Fall and Lit?

ANy suggestions are welcome.

Have a GREAT day

Why?... You have a few routines you know work well... Tweak those a little, a far better suited solution if you ask me. You know them like the back of your hand and you'll get much better mileage out of them because of it.

3 weeks is not as long as you think, especially not with performing and routining magic.

Save new stuff for times when it's not so important... In this situation, someone has hired you, give them the best you have to offer... Worry about new stuff afterwards so when they hire you again in the distant future, you have the material then to blow them away again. :)

thank you, I guess I will check it out.

Quick off topic question, Does any one know if frozen By Adam Grace can freeze water?

I HIGHLY doubt that. However, you can take any small borrowed object and make it freezing up to the point frost forms on the object. I do doubt though that you can freeze water.

Take a quarter. Freeze it up to the point frost forms. Hand it back. CRAZY.

dude i wouldn't suggest power word fall at all
I mean it's a great effect but 30 dollars for an effect that you could just as well accomplish with I.T??? cmon, no matter what the real gimmick is, I.T will do just as well. As for frozen,... i say get it. I can't think of how to do it. Looks awesome.

I'm about to be a tad harsh, so I apologize ahead of time, but it needs to be said, because I am truly tired of this...

When someone asks you to perform for them, and you agree, in your head you should already have an idea of what to perform. Material you have already practiced, not material you will buy to learn. In those three weeks, you should only have to spend time perfecting your routine. You should be able to already perform the effects in your sleep.

Yes, some will say "You have to do a show sooner or later, you cant always sit around practicing." To that I say, NO S***! But on the same note, you should already have a good working knowledge of effects you can perform for the gig.

Even if you've never performed before, especially if youve never performed before, you should only use effects you've practiced and know very well. People talk. If you just learned some tricks for the gig, it will show. If you don't do your best, then those who hired you will put the word out.

My advice is don't buy ANYTHING new. Use what you know. If you can't, you should not have taken the gig to begin with.

Great logic...

I can come up with a method that would probably work with this so don't bother getting that... On the otherhand this fools me and I can't think of how to do it so get that.

By the same token, I shouldn't buy Universal Impression because I can do an effect that I could just about accomplish with a C.T. but I should spend $34.95 on eXile because I can't think of how to do it... I wouldn't perform it nearly as much as if I bought Universal Impression, but damnit I just don't know the method to eXile... so I'll go with that.

EDIT: This was to JPIllusions, but Thrall's ninja-esque posting technique got in the way.

I think you should reward yourself a little for getting a gig.

Get something practical that you know you'll get a lot of use out of.

And just kinda work it into middle of one of your routine to try it out. So if it falls flat you can just make up for it later.

Maybe a psychological force thing?

Or you could just wait for something after the gig so you can see where the holes in your performance are. Unless you noticed some from when you were performing for your girlfriend's aunt.

(Disclaimer: I have absolutely no experience here.)

What kind of effects are you into?

Exactly. Focus on your performance, put together a well strung routine before throwing new things in left and right. You'll have a bunch of effects with no meaning. Create a routine that means something, you'll be better off in the long run.

By all means buy new things, but don't try to perform them in an untested routine right away.

Alright, I agree with what everybody said but you have to also put in the fact that maybe he just wants some new tricks anyways. My effects for walkaround are not the ones you would be interested in since it's more mentalism and requires experience but if you have that then I will recommend some stuff PM me.

Just remember everybody that while giving advice is great make sure you know the circumstances. I remember I was asking for effects for a new gig and I was bashed a few times but I was going to grab some new effects and the gig was just something that popped up. Get the details also.

Then one should be more clear:

Isn't exactly saying "I have a gig, awesome! anyways, Im looking for new effects to start practicing." He is in fact saying he has a gig coming up and has three weeks to learn new effects for it.

Yeah I see what you mean by taking my own advice but I wasn't really worried about this topic but imo stick with what you got unless....,,..,,.,.,., you truly believe you can incorporate that effect into your routine by substituting, adding, or w/e else there might be. I remember I bought effects that just looked cool, now I look back I realize dam that money could have been used for a killer routine. Good luck anyways.
