Hi Fellas,
Saturday I performed 3 hours of strolling at an outdoor Farm Park. They had hired me for a their Family Fun Day from 2:00-5:00 PM. There were horse shows, pig races, kiddie jump houses, food booths, etc.

I packed the following 3 sets in my pockets. I checked the wind outside and decided to leave all packet tricks that required to set cards on a table or a spectators hand at home. The wind would have blown them and revealed things.

Set A Mismade Dollar, CMH, and Free Will (mentalism chip routine)
Set B Ring Thing, A card force with a lottery ticket reveal, and a strolling book test
Set C Spongeball to Square, A chrome hot rod paddle trick, Telethought wallet 2

I arrived at the venue at 1:45 ready to roll only to find out that they had not reserved a parking spot for me with the other entertainers (bummer) and had to drive off the property, down the road 2 miles and catch a free shuttle bus back onto the property. Not a big deal but something I thought would have been taken care of ahead of time.

The weather was about 80 degrees and sunny. I wore my suit but skipped the shirt and tie underneath and instead went with a solid red colored v-neck that still look professional but was a lot cooler than a shirt and tie.

The day went well and it just reaffirmed that simple magic hits hard. I did not perform 1 single double lift the entire day or anything knuckle busting and was flooring people. The name of the game is "entertainment" people. Simple is easy to follow and they could care less about the flourishes you can do. Just make them happy and let the magic happen....involve them and make them feel special.

I gave out over 50 business cards and by today have had 3 clients try to book me during June. Unfortunately I had to turn down 2 gigs since I am on vacation with my family in Hilton Head.

Moral of the story: Do not sit in your bedroom thinking that you have to get your pass down or a 5 card pinky count. Just get out there and perform and change peoples lives.

Great Job Rick!!

Bad luck about the parking space...I guess you are right it could have been taken care of...but sometimes life just happens...I think everybody should have different outfits for different kind of gigs and situations (I have 3: Rage (my actual look in my profile) Classy (for night clubs and private parties of high level) Urban (for outdoors gigs like festivals)) since it`s good to have a default image for people to recognize you...

Your final advice about entertainment should be aimed to semi.begginers...since they think that in order to be a better magician you should perform the latest, expensive and visual trick now...they should realize that magic is mostly for laymen and not magicians...the audience doesn`t care if is the latest or hardest sleight ever...they care if they are having a good time...

Once again...great job Rick!! I love when a gig goes great!!

Thanks Luis. Yes...the last bit advice was more aimed towards the beginners on here who think you have to have all of the latest and greatest and master sleight of hand.

Can I do some of the more difficult sleights and knuckle busters...sure...but there is no need to nor does your audience care. They just want to have fun and be entertained.

I agree. For example, the Double Lift "Card Change" is so simple. However, it can be a small miracle if you perform it with the right spin on things... However, the Clipshift is one exception. It is definitely a knuckle buster, but still gets great reactions.
