I read a related news article, which stated that the pen was a gift.

He simply had an odd way of accepting it. To put it nicely.

Andrew is correct. It was a gift that he simply accepted. It was not stolen.

Actually the pen was "stolen" and then after the footage was released they said that he was free to take it. That it was totally fine and for him to consider it a gift.
