Table riffle shuffle

Hi guys, just a quick question!

In The Royal Road To Card Magic, they teach the table riffle grip one way, but many other sources teach it differently. For example, the grip in Dan And Daves tutorial that they have on their site, differs alot from the technique in RRTCM.

I know RRTCM is a thrustworthy source, but is that method ''outdated''? Is Dan And Daves method a good choice otherwise?

I realize this might be a ''dumb'' question. I just want to learn everything correctly.

There is no 'correctly'. There are things that can be done to make certain things more easy, but that doesn't make one way wrong or right. The only thing that makes something wrong is if the end result is not what you want. IE: If in the end you are unable to weave the cards together, then that is an incorrect method for the tabled riffle shuffle.

Otherwise, just do what works for you and understand that you will make constant adjustments over time as you learn new sleights and tricks.

It depends what you want to achieve. If you want to look like you might know your way around a high-stakes game then you'll probably want to get used to the "low-wristed" shuffle that casino dealers use. If you want to give a slightly more open look then you'll probably choose the Erdnase-style grip. My recommendation is that, for most situations, it doesn't matter as long as you can shuffle neatly and smoothly. Even so, it's definitely a good idea to be aware of the possibilities just in case you ever come across a situation that calls for a particular grip

Thanks guys!

But there are some things that you "need" to have down right? Or is it? For example, after seeing one of Aaron fishers card magic minute videos about "how to hold a deck of cards", I decided to get the " right grip" down. Earlier I held the grip a little tweaked , not much I guess, but I lost the grip all the time when doing slights and coming back.

Anyways, I have felt, because I recently became a "serious" magician, opposed to before when I was a YouTube magician etc.. http://forums.theory11.com/showthread.php?38929-Relearning-mechanic-s-grip

... I feel that I now want to be seen as another person. I want to have every slight I learn down perfectly. That can be a problem sometimes, when I can't find the " one and only perfect way to learn a trick ". That said, I don't perform much either.

If you have any tips on what to do, or just thoughts on this, please reply.

Please dont learn the basics from those card magic minute videos, they are totally and absolutely terrible, and much better for laughing at when you already know the stuff in them.
As for your question, the only correct way to do anything, is the way that suits you best. Don't try and copy everything exactly, just learn roughly how to do it.

Your best guide to these kind of basic card-handling issues will be watching the way other card-workers handle the deck. Find a few people who handle cards in the way you would like to and study their performances. Work out for yourself why they have chosen to handle the cards in the way they do. To take a few examples, Steve Forte, Lennart Green and Bill Malone all handle cards in very different ways. Consider what they achieve by the particular manner in which they pick up the deck, cut, shuffle, handle a small packet, etc. It'll take a while for you to work out exactly what you're trying to convey with your card magic, but when you do, you can focus on handling the cards in a way which helps to achieve that.
