How old are the kids? Later on this month, I'm doing a birthday party for 7 year olds for the first time. Here's my lineup
Sponge balls, cups and balls, magic coloring book, almost impromptu rising card, dime and penny trick, hot rod, card penetration frame.

THE best investment you could ever make as far as kid show ideas, is Seriously Silly Live by David Kaye, you'll learn how you can take ANY trick or routine & turn it into a funny, interactive routine for kids, & will pay off BIG time for you, Silly Billy is my favorire kid's magician!!

Aaron:

I would be cautious about using the magic coloring book, dime and penny, hot rod and penetration frame for 7 year olds. The magic coloring book is a little too young - most 7 year olds dont color in coloring books. The dime and penny may be too small for a group to see and the mere disappearance of the dime may not impress that age group ( it would be stronger if you could use it as part of the routine. Similarly, gimmicks like the hot rod and penetration frame may not play well for that age group.

I'd be glad to help you with some other ideas for your show... shoot me a PM if you want to talk.

The ideas are good. Depending on your budget, there are a lot of resources for routines using those props. Let me know if you want some suggestions for where to learn routines.

If it's a Christmas show you might want to do some effects that relate to the holiday. You can get star shaped sponge balls and maybe use red and green rope.

One other effect to consider is Snowstorm (in China). It would make a great closer.

Let me know if I can help you out in any way.

Reality One is dead on. I do many kids shows and the coloring book plays well for ages 3-to-6. 7 is ok but you if you have some older kids in there they may not be too impressed....even with good patter. A hot rod routine is great for close up but just like dime and penny, the audience will never even see it.

You may want to do something with a funny cut and restored rope routine, card routine with JUMBO cards, silks, mismade flag routine, die box, stratosphere (my favorite closer for kids show), hippity hop rabbits, mirror box, etc. You need things to play big and visual with that age group.
