Who is the true expert at the card table?

I think that it's kid of a good thing that no one knows who it is. It's hard to explain but it seems easier to learn and build off of someone when you don't have a clear example of a person who sits st the peak of where you are trying to get to.

    old versus new

Fair enough, but I still think it is a gradual change made possible by the older generation. I mean, obviously there is a difference, but there isn't a fine line separating the old and the new. It's there, but it's pretty blurry.

    Help on Seminar

You could do a routine where you make it a mind reading routine, and have each participant figure out a different component of the forced thing. E.g. 1st guy has each member of the audience write down a celebrity on a slip of paper and put it in a small box. 2nd guy is doing some patter and...

    old versus new

There isn't really an "old" and a "new". There is a constant flow and change throughout generations, all built on the previous ones.

Saturday Night Contest - A Novel Idea

1st off, the contest was to make an effect and present it well. Jebzy's presentation was absolutely amazing. Secondly, the effect doesn't have to be original. There are only a handful of effects out there. It's how you present it that creates the effect. Finally, this is 100% possible in real...

Playing Cards - Top Things to Look for in a Deck

Well it depends. If you are making a collector's deck, you might want to add in a cool looking card, like something David Blaine did with his "holographic lion". If it's for performances, a Double backer, A double facer, or even a blank card will be great! Maybe even a custom Gaff with a funny...

    Wand Street Journal - 09/17/2017

Welcome to this weeks addition of the wand street journal. Your weekly (mostly) unbiased magic newspaper! Unfortunately, @101rusty 's WiFi is out today, so I'm filling in. There was a lot of Drama this week. Now there has been a TON of Drama this week, and I hate to bring it up. However, I...

Playing Cards - Top Things to Look for in a Deck

It also comes down to what you are designing it for. People make decks for art, and for collections, and other decks are for performances. If your asking what a magician wants, it's simplicity but still nice looking. But overall, function over form, if they can't get form and function. A...

Playing Cards - Top Things to Look for in a Deck

Well, if we are talking about a deck we would actually perform with... At first glance, It's gotta be simple enough that the spectators don't think it's a "trick deck". But it could also have an intricate design that isn't too much. If possible, it could be marked (there are a lot of things you...

    Back to frontpalm question

Go ahead and read through a chapter at a time. If you don't understand something, try reading through it again, with a deck this time. If you have ay questions, feel free to let me know!

    Back to frontpalm question

I'm assuming you are referring to The Expert at the Card Table? It is not a book for beginners. It is more so a book of theory, at least that's what a lot of people use it for. Most of the stuff in there is really hard to read and understand, and you will rarely use a ton of it (unless you do...

Would Theory11 produce poker chips? (And a brief introduction + cards crowdfunding question)

I think that TXI poker chips would look dope! I don't think they would need to start a kickstarter though, since they are a huge company already. I don't think there are too many scams out there on kickstarter. Most people genuinely like producing their deck on there. However, if you are scared...

    About tricks and routines

If it helps, you can also add mnemonics into the mix, to help keep you organized. Also, go ahead and find a general name for a trick you came up with by yourself. That way, instead of saying "I need to do this and tis and this and this," Your brain will say "I need to perform ____", with the...

    Red blue or black?

I mean, it's all the exact same thing with different colors... Again, personal taste. I really like the red and blue ones.

    About tricks and routines

The routine should be made to allow you to flow into a few tricks. They aren't made on the spot, so when people go through routines, everything is practiced. Moves, patter, etc.

    Is the an original trick?

The presentation is probably unique, the trick itself is no. Also, I think you should work on your moves a bit. Nice idea though!

In the Hands False Riffle Shuffles

Could someone direct me to a few In the Hands False Riffle shuffles? I know one is taught in Card College (I think). I also know that Guy Hollingworth has one, as does Daniel Madison, though I'm not sure what book they are in. I've been trying to take tabled false riffle shuffles and...
