If you look at magic as a whole, it is just gimmicks, the trick is to make things look real, thats where the real skill lies. Although granted, apart from an invisible deck, i am a purist when it comes to cards, as it is possible to do great magic without any gimmicks.

In fact doing more than one type would be unique, so many people conform to types nowadays, whatever happened to a magician being an entertainer, all around, rather than just someone who can do stuff with cards etc.

Non Bicycle, Non Poker Sized Cards (Phew... Mouthful) in the UK are incredibly stiff, because of the stock, and the size, and they take a good 2 weeks to wear in, but after that they get easier to manipulate, so be patient, keep practicing and eventually you'll get there.

The 60% of the time you are not dealing is a major point but cheats would not cheat the entire night, you only need to do these moves once or twice and with a large enough pot, your set.

Clearly the exponential increase in social skills and confidence building is a major part of what practicing the art of magic gives you, yet at the same time the physical extras are often just as noticeable, faster reflexes, the ability to think on your feet, all these are actually applicable...

Yes it's an art but whats wrong with showing off, if you have put in the practice and effort, then why not demonstrate your skills.

I think you will probably need to explain a little bit more :), do you mean, things including cheating techniques that can be used as magic, if so, then something like talking, shuffling and retaining order is a good place to start.
