    Do you Suspend Disbelief?

Personally I disagree. Magic requires no suspension disbelief. Magic IS disbelief. Some of my favorite magicians such as Aussie Wind, or Penn and Teller have managed to completely remove any type of presentation in many of their effects. With magic we get to ask ourselves questions about what...

    Jason England's Gambling Museum

I am always excited when Jason England talks about gambling and scams. His products are among my favorites on Theory11. His depth of knowledge is outstanding! This last week he walked through some of the articles in his gambling museum and I thought some people around here would think that...

    ONLY 1!

Flux, I can do it anywhere, repeat it indefinitely, and everyone finds it entertaining.

    Spectator names a joker

I usually nip it in the bud, when I need a card I either build it up (have them name a color then a suit then a value) this also helps if I need to transition into equivoque. Otherwise I'll say something like don't pick a stupid card like a joker or a wild draw four.

    Covid19 performer responsibilities?

I don't know how it would play but I know Paul Draper was planning on using sanitizer and rubber gloves for a show he was going to do at Disneyland this last week. The gig was cancelled but it's an interesting approach. I feel like it's not necessary. I feel like it's similar to replacing meat...

    Covid19 performer responsibilities?

Of course I'm staying inside at the moment! A lot has happened over the last week, and when this thread was first posted things were different than they are now. Heck in my area schools were open Wednesday ,Thursday, and Friday. I make 100% of my money through magic. I can't just turn down a...

    Covid19 performer responsibilities?

It looks like, that will be the last live gig for a while. Everything else has been cancelled.

    Educating 'Laymen' and Tired of...?

The most annoying thing for me right now is actually magicians. I wish that when magicians saw an effect online that didn't fool them They would still understand that they owe it to the creator to purchase the effect.

Hey Guys does anyone know Chris Ramsay’s psychological trick?

My theory is that the video cuts and he asks the guy to do something with his card. He has him write it down, tell it to someone else, or he takes a guess and has an out if he gets it wrong (invisible deck in the back pocket, or Kolassal Killer). I think it's likely Kolassal Killer and he gets...

    Covid19 performer responsibilities?

I had a walk around gig last night. I didn't do any of my normal material. I thought I'd share. My routine looked like this: 3 Fly Super Ball Crazy Man's Handcuffs Mis-made Bill Invisible Deck/Chicago Opener 3 Fly - "I've had to change the way I perform. This is how I exchange money at the...

    Mentalism

A really solid project that I like to point people towards is Marc Spelmann's Read my Mind. Marc's one of the best mentalists out there, and what he teaches is the real deal. Everything on the project is foundational, powerful, and for the most part he uses only props that you can find at home...

Unpopular Opinion: Stage Magic is Harder Than Close Up

I started out learning stage magic. I performed for my first birthday party at age 7 with mostly stage material (linking rings, professor's nightmare, square circle mirror box). I used the magic from a thrift store magic set. I was a teenager before I performed much close-up magic. I think if...

Unpopular Opinion: Stage Magic is Harder Than Close Up

Today I was watching a Tim ferriss interview with Richard Turner. Halfway through the interview Richard Turner makes the claim that a sleight of hand magic, especially with cards,is the most difficult type of magic. I heard the said before and I just can't understand how it would be true. I...

What Would A Real Psychic Do

I should say, while I think this is a helpful discussion, it's not the way I like to present mentalism. I have really liked odd presentations lately, at least casually they have been more fun. I'm working on an effect where I put a tinfoil hat on the participants head and chem trails cause the...

What Would A Real Psychic Do

Yeah, good thoughts. As a guide with this kind of approach to mentalism I think of Charles Xavier from X-Men. He's my reference for a "real" psychic. What would he do if someone said, "Read my mind!" Probably nothing. He'd continue to talk with them, like a kind human. What would it look like...

What are your favorite historical magic stories?

All great choices. Malani absolutely did perform the ice cube trick. The circumstances surrounding the performance though are up for debate. I think that's what you meant. Mowini stories are amazing, some issues arise from how they've been passed down though. One of The best collections of...

What are your favorite historical magic stories?

Houdini and Blackstone's rivalry. Blackstone performed an underwater escape and Houdini publicly shamed him. It made headlines for a little while. At Houdini's death they found Blackstone's trunk among Houdini's collection suggesting that the rivalry was staged. Houdin's Influence Was as a...

    Difficult Moves

Marlo still has some of the most difficult card moves around. You want to look at Revolutionary Card Magic for sure, focus on Marlo's various center deals. Also, he has some great color changes which are fairly difficult. Ray Kosby has some good work. He's the guy who created Raise Rise...

    Backpalm

If I focus on the good things first you have a really cool pop when the card comes back. It makes the reappearance really fast. The back palm is a difficult move even though it's taught in many beginner books. Also, those cards look amazing. Now I don't have the world's best back palm, and the...
