    Any love for Si Stebbins?

I use the Si Stebbins stack along with Dani Daortiz's variation on the stack. It's a powerful tool. You can stack multiple hands with a Si Stebbins stack and you can go directly into a lot of Gilbreath Principle work. There's a lot of cool stuff you can do with it.

    Pencil Through Bill

Hey thanks! That means a lot. Well, I'm still tinkering with it. It's fairly practical but it's got a ways till I can use it in a walk around environment.

    Pencil Through Bill

Here's my take on pencil Through Bill. https://www.instagram.com/p/BnRQckplHlC/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1wex6l1j5u3hl I showed this video to my family, they were like, "Yeah, we've seen you do that before." While the response was underwhelming, I'm still pretty proud of it. (please...

    Mentalism effect name???

Yeah so the principle is Paul Curry's I believe. Unless I'm mistaken he created the switch or deal ruse (like ID4 mentions Jay Sankey uses this a lot). Chris Ramsay is a beast and I want to say the presentation was original to him, therefore the extra 9 was probably his original addition...

Is a close up pad worth it?

Yup! Most of the time I practice on a flat smooth surface for this reason. When I am able to perform with a close up pad it is heavenly. You do not NEED a close up pad by any means.

    Backstage

I love this effect. I believe that Jim Steinmeyer sold a version a few years back, or it may be in the Conjuring Anthology. It looks like you got what you needed though. Yikes! This isn't the Magic Cafe. If you have the choice of being helpful or telling someone to Google it CHOOSE THE FORMER...

What does absolute silence as reaction to a trick mean?

I agree with this. I would add you should know what type of reaction you are going for. This takes time. Just like a DJ might chose a song that they want the crowd to dance to, you should be able to control the tone of the piece so that you can elicit the right reaction. There are types of...

    Science vs Art

I think you bring up a good point, that we should pay attention to how our audience views what we say about our magic. I think the word "experiment" is used most often as a replacement for the word "trick". As an introduction I don't think that either word is all that special or creative. You...

    theory11 at Target ?

This is what happened at my local Target. Oh and with the Barnes and Noble ones it seems like my local store only puts them out seasonally. Green and Red Monarchs in December, Love Me playing cards in February. I'm sure some of it depends on management but they are there.

    Guessing the color of underwear

Hey StenleyMagic142713 the guys aren't trying to be unhelpful there's just a few things going on. 1. The initial question is a bit bizarre. The trick is unique and the description provided isn't all that specific. There's not a lot for us to go on. It might look like he just goes up to someone...

    Learning specific tricks

I can help you out with all of these effects but I'm not going to post the links publicly. It just makes it too easy for people to search online and get ahold of. If you'd like the actual effects send me a PM and I can get you the specific links.

    Book Recommendations

Vanishing Inc. has the best selection for this type of book. Art of Astonishment, or The Definitive Jay Sankey are great and full of all types of card magic. That's recent. I really think that some of the best card magic out there was published by Marlo. It seems old because the guy is dead but...

Like minded people in my area ?

Florida is a magic hub! If I can find 3 national clubs and 4 local clubs in a two hour radius in rural Utah, there's probably twice as many clubs in Florida.

what is your favorite gambling routine

Jack Carpenter has an effect that I have been working on where you deal 3 killer hands out of five. You demonstrate a center, bottom, second third and fourth deal in the process. Everything is very clear and fair.

What is the name of that trick ?

I'm not sure of the exact method of the trick but I believe it is a version of brainwave. Vernon popularized the eight card brainwave. Here on Theory11 Lennart Green had the mirror count which was another version of the same effect. Rick Lax has a treatment of the effect called Reverse...

    Magic for anatomy?

I just read Mary Roach's book Gulp. It is a great book, but it makes me think of how the digestive system changes things by breaking them down. You could illustrate this with any type of a changing effect. You could also talk about the body's ability to heal itself and perform a broken and...

Where can I volunteer for show?

You are probably good enough to be paid. What you do is worth something. That said, retirement homes are always looking for entertainment and they have a very forgiving audience (generally). If you attend magic club meetings they will usually have a lot of time where you can perform for them and...

Be Natural. What did Vernon mean?

Good stuff. There are many magicians who toot the horn of naturalness and actually perform in an incredibly suspicious way. The magician who comes to mind at the beginning of the article is John Carney. I think he is an outstanding magician for sure and far more knowledgeable about magic than...

People don't like the cross cut force?

Yes, it's very difficult to cross cut force a banana. I like the cross cut force just fine. I feel like it's healthy as artists and innovators to continually try new things. I'll use the cross cut force but I like to experiment with other stuff and try to "eliminate" any problems the force may...
