    My effects and archiving

There isn't really a way of knowing for sure if something's already been invented. You just have to show it to a few knowledgeable and experienced magicians and see if they know of anything like it.

    What is this move called?

If you care about such things, bear in mind that the moves on this DVD aren't necessarily named, taught, or credited as the creator intended.

    What is this move called?

I learned this move on Showoff with Cards, although I imagine it had some made-up name on there. I'm afraid I don't know the real name, but hopefully this might help you to track it down.

    Improve Your Mind: Contest Details!

Well, you learn something every day. I somehow managed to go through my schooling, a degree in Philosophy and Politics, and a writing course without ever coming across this term. To be fair to myself though, I think it might be something that's emphasised more in US teaching methods, so it's not...

    Improve Your Mind: Contest Details!

He can't be that hard on us given there's five or six grammatical and spelling errors in his original post. :D No offence intended Mr Draven....don't want to prejudice my chances :).

    Improve Your Mind: Contest Details!

When you say "5 paragraph theme", do you mean it has to be exactly 5 paragraphs?

    Misdirection

Giving an instruction or asking a question is always good because it forces the spectator to divide their concentration. Even if their eyes are focussed on your hands, their mind simply can't be for that split-second. My favourite one, when, for example, I want to do a pass and someone's...

    Uses For The Second Deal?

It has to be used when you have a method of ascertaining the top card. So, this could be through the use of a top card peek, a shiner, or marked cards. So, if you see that the top card is one that you want, you deal seconds to the other players, then the top to yourself.

Best Little Known Book - PDF or DVD

Yeah, I take your point, Dr Krenzel isn't exactly an unknown up-and-comer in the world of magic, but round here, he never gets a mention. Oh, and I second your opinion on Bob White's palming DVD by the way. That and John Carney's DVD have the best teaching on palming I've come across.

Best Little Known Book - PDF or DVD

I'd go with anything by Ken Krenzel. He's got some quality visual, modern-looking magic, but for some reason, maybe because his books aren't sold on dananddave.com or Ellusionist or whatever, he never seems to get a mention.

Even the red and blue ones are out of print.

A good place to start with Card Flourishing?

I'd like to put a word in on behalf of Cap Casino's Back to Basics 1 and 2 DVDs. No-one ever mentions them, but they predate XB and teach a lot of fundamental flourishes in detail, and provide a good grounding to move on to harder material.

Derren Brown Events: Loses 5 grand is it real...

LOL. He's not Obi Wan Kenobi..."This isn't the camera you're looking for."

Derren Brown Events: Loses 5 grand is it real...

The guy with the roulette system was David Berglas, just in case anyone's wondering.

    Is this guy serious?

If that's the worst thing you ever seen, then I would venture you haven't seen many performing magicians, and that you haven't done many paid gigs yourself. Yeah, he had some sloppy sleights, and a bit of an unnatural delivery, but I've seen people who've been in the business forty years and who...

    Idea for a Patter Book

I was scarily close by chance. Somehow Scripting Magic has passed me by, even though I'm sure people have mentioned the name to me before. So yeah, if it's all it's cracked up to be looks like Scripting Magic is the way forward.

    Idea for a Patter Book

It would probably be more useful to have a book by an experienced magician, maybe in collaboration with a screenwriter or playwright, which dissected the patter and presentation of various performances, and therefore gave the reader the tools to create their own.

    Shifted Grip?

No problem. I've got a bit of a collector's mania for false dealing techniques, so if I'm not familiar with something I want to know about it.

    Shifted Grip?

I've done a bit of research and, as far as I can see, this grip is unique to "The Count", who used to post as Drey on 21ace and a couple of other forums. As far as I can see, it bears some resemblence to the look of a modified Erdnase grip, and the pressures of the grip described in Maskelyne's...
