How to deal with Tough Cookies ( Hard Audience )

Yeah I realize that. But think about it. The more you try to prove him/her wrong. The more you are giving them what they want. They want to take the attention away from you. Which is why I said it's best to simply ignore them and move on.

How to deal with Tough Cookies ( Hard Audience )

Well I prefer the Dai Vernon approach. The ONLY flourishy things I usually do are like a charlier or a faro or a lepzig cut.(yeah I probably spelled that wrong.). I look at guys like David Williamson and others who aren't move monkeys and it's like when they pull off the effect it does look...

How to deal with Tough Cookies ( Hard Audience )

Why do you want to put the heckler in his/her place? Does it make you feel like a big man? I mean honestly, it doesn't do anything besides add fuel to the fire. If you honestly want to get rid of a heckler. Just ignore them and move on. Otherwise it's going to end up being a battle of half wits.

How to deal with Tough Cookies ( Hard Audience )

Well yeah in that case, I agree. I've seen a few people do XCM or Flourishy stuff and then try to act like it was magic Coughliamwalshcough. If that's the case, then most people aren't impressed by the effect, but by the juggling as Simon Lovell would say.

How to deal with Tough Cookies ( Hard Audience )

Well if they take the cards away, then that's pretty much a grabber. You can pretty much just tell them no. If doing an ACR and they want to shuffle the cards. Palm the top card (their card), let them shuffle it to their hearts content, and replace the card. Or simply do a card to pocket...

    World's greatest magic trick?

Not to mention Derren Brown or pretty much any other mentalist out there.

I'm not thrilled about "The Trilogy".

Devo would like a word with you. He pretty much used to do this professionally and for big night clubs and huge events. I think D&D might have also gotten hired for some high up gigs as well. Not for the magic, mind you. But the flourishes.

    Kids at School

Darwin Ortiz pretty much said the easiest way to get the best performances is to simply observe different people before you perform. IE: if somebody looks like they are noisy and wants to be the center of attention. Then don't pick them. If some one if quiet and looks like they are looking...

    Kids at School

You don't have to get everybody involved. Seriously what is with people thinking you have to entertain EVERYBODY? Look, I've already stated why it's a bad idea to constantly perform at school. Most High School's or middle schools or whatevers, are usually just one big popularity contest. You...

    Need Some Advice

A warning for what? That if you have a planned routine that people will be on to you or something? Most pro's have routines because it makes the show go by smoother, they don't have to worry about trying to remember everything and if you are smart enough, you can make the routine look spontaneous.

    Need Some Advice

Just because something is routine doesn't mean that it's planned out down to the T. Some guys have a few effects that they perform, but the order and everything they do pretty much depends on the flow of the show and the energy of the room or people they are performing for. IE: if you have a...

    Kids at School

The general consensus is that you really shouldn't perform at school. Due to it being one big popularity contest and the fact that you pretty much see those people every day.

Is the Performance of Magic as Personal...

No it's not. Tho Steerpike obviously disagrees. I think that magic depending on what you do, can be both entertainment and also some sort of learning experience for the audience. With card magic it's a bit harder to do. But with Mentalisim you could essentially do that.

Is the Performance of Magic as Personal...

Well it's true and most performers don't say that because it's easier to just say entertainment. Rather than something a long the lines of "A Journey of self Discovery"

Not Impressed? I need some advice.

She most likely wasn't into magic.

Who do you feel are the top creators in magic today?

I forget the actual quote but most of the guys who are creators, tend to be amateur's or hobbyist. Because they have the most time on their hands and enjoy it a bit more than the pro's, Sense they don't have to worry about the business side of it.

I will be performing to a very posh audience on Sunday.

It's one thing to accept tips when you are working a regular friday to saturday night table hopping job at whatever restaurant or bar. But usually when you work for a high paying gig, you should just tell the people who try to tip you that you are already covered by the host and then give them...

    Tonight's Stuff

Depends on who you ask. Kostya's is really great and blamo. I think the one that is actually the most visual is one that requires a gimmick or something. I can't think of the name for the effect but it pretty much has the deck "right" itself in front of the spectator magically.

    Tonight's Stuff

Sounds awesome. Tho I haven't really bought anything from Danny Garcia, but have heard a lot of people loved the Project set, so maybe this is him updating it and adding a lot of better stuff.
