What should a magician own that is not magic.

Charisma and the ability to connect to people without magic.

    What cards?

You don't think that a magician performing magic tricks arouses suspicion? Making cards go inside bottles, making them teleport, rise to the top of the deck, change into other cards - isn't that suspicious? What about making coins bend, or reading thoughts? I'd hazard to say that simply...

    Mental vs Magic

An In-Character answer: "What I can do, it doesn't work the way you think it does. It's not always on. When I'm performing, it's because I've spent the last few weeks doing nothing but meditating / practicing my psychology / attempting to move small objects / reading a friends' mind /...

    Pick A Card Help

Sean Fields has something similar in his X-Rated notes. You hold the deck up (it can be shuffled, whatever you want to happen to it), riffle it and tell them to call stop and note the card. Then you can reveal however you want. Devious principle.

How do you present/structure your mentalism?

Read this thread by Segachtek, who originally posted the idea, and also pay attention to Morgician's comments for a dissenting viewpoint - he raises some good points about such an approach.

How do you present/structure your mentalism?

Depends on what effects you're doing and how you ultimately string them together. If you're asking for how others present: When I'm performing mentalism, I talk about how mind-reading is presented in popular media, and that it's impossible in that capacity. Honest psychics need simpler words...

    Mental vs Magic

The entire art is built on lies and deception. We're all learning different ways to fool spectators. It's assumed that the spectator doesn't honestly think you have super powers. It's kind of arrogant the way most magicians think they have to come out and include a disclaimer to the audience...

    True Astonishments

No offense to Chris Kenner, and Totally Out of Control is great stuff, but it's Paul Harris. The guy who wanted to make a self-vanish by running out of a room while a spectator looked at him through a paper tube. It's Paul Harris. Come on.

    Brad Christian DVD

Didn't we have a similar thread like a week or two ago? About Brad? http://forums.theory11.com/showthread.php?t=13324&highlight=brad There we go. Well, if you're asking: he's a good teacher, and I think he does a decent job performing. Comes off very "safe", but not too engaging. Some...

    I've lost the magic...

Something that got me to stop being bored was to create my own stuff. Most of it's really bad, probably impractical, and also probably thought of before by other people to much better effect. But, alone with my thoughts, they're mine - I thought of some effects, and I think about their...

    Geek Magic... Definition?

No. Way back before geek came to mean what you commonly hear in high school, it was a term applied to circus freaks. The term referred to someone who would chase a chicken around only to bite the head off, who acted as sort of an opener for other freaks. However, it has come to also include...

    Blackhole Teleportation redo

(The camera seemed to speed up but the guy on screen didn't, as far as I can tell. Maybe it just shakes more violently, causing the appearance of speed. It's at a weird angle anyway. Could I be wrong? Sure, and I won't argue anyone proving me as such.) Camera tricks, creative editing? I...

Daniel Madison’s ‘Hunger’ ends with hospitalization.

Why? He was saying it was stupid, not easy. Said teenage girls normally do that out of self-esteem problems and overall peer review. Madison did it as a test of his willpower and mental capacity to accept constant difficulty. So, really, it's not at all like a teenage girl would do. With...

Psychological Subtleties is more of an enhancement for someone with a firmer understanding in mentalism. After expanding your knowledge a bit, definitely come back to it, but don't start out with it. 13 Steps to Mentalism, by Corinda, is widely regarded as the bible of mentalism, but its a...
