    The Spanish School Of Magic

Whether or not we like their style (I for one enjoyed the performances posted above a lot), I think we can learn some things from this school. I don't see the need to commit to one school, and one school only. As with many things, a mixture may be best. To quote St. Paul: "Test them all; hold on...

Thank you very much for your help! Have a great start into the new year, David!

    Card production

Do you happen to know if Eric Chien uses gimmicks for this particular effect? Also, could you tell me some of the other trailers you saw it on?

    Card production

Hello everybody, I remember seeing a really nice card production some time ago. The magician (can't even remember who it was) held two cards spread quite widely, and with a little flick of the wrist suddenly a third card stuck out reversed between them. Can anybody tell me what this technique is...

    Effects where you make gimmicks

The description of Advocate is published in DM's How to Cheat at Poker. Probably elsewhere as well, but I didn't check. You should check his website.

Where to learn the classic pass?

Love your honesty :D You said it better than I could have. Merry christmas!

Where to learn the classic pass?

To not answer your second question: a) What exactly do you mean by the Invisible Pass? b) The Hermann pass can't be called a variation of the classic pass. It's a completely different pass: The end goal - restoring the order of the deck - is the same, but the mechanics are completely different...

Several questions: Colour change, card teleportation, card reveal, Cups and Balls

Helps a lot, thank you! I am now convinced that I will not use such card teleportation in my (hypothetical) show. I'm sure other magicians could do amazing effects with these principles, but I'm afraid for me, at this stage, it isn't the right thing. Thank you for your help, nevertheless! Have...

    On a Definition of Magic

I'm sorry if I came across this way. As hinted in my post above, I'm absolutely fascinated by debates which try to bring rationality and science into waters usually uncharted in those regards. That is why my own apprehension surprised me at first, until "enlightenment" came at 1 o'clock in the...

    On a Definition of Magic

All the time reading this discussion, I've had the feeling that something isn't right. I somehow disliked the topic immediately, even though objective, rational definitions are usually just the right thing for me to be enthusiastic about! At last, I've been able to put my finger on what's not...

    On a Definition of Magic

He didn't say they don't know the difference between real world and magic, but just that they have a quicker pathway to wonder. They have a very clear picture of what's possible in the "real world" and what isn't, and in some sense they have a pretty closed mind: When something happens they...

    On a Definition of Magic

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." -- Arthur C. Clarke Just going to throw that out there. Curious to see what you'll make of it!

    'in air' tabled faro?

Just what I was about to say. To go into a little more detail: Most cards have what Richard Turner calls the modern cut. That means that the cards are cut from the back to the front, very slightly beveling the edges of the cards, so you have a slightly rounded edge at the back of the cards and a...

Don't know a lot of magic dealers, but like Vanishing Inc. for it's fantastic customer service.

Several questions: Colour change, card teleportation, card reveal, Cups and Balls

Point taken. It's something I wouldn't want to overuse, but I've been thinking of a few routines in which a colour change would be quite nice. Talking of angle sensitivity, how sensitive is Tony Chang's Be Kind Change? That's one of the changes I've seen I like the most.

    Bottom Deal -

Congrats, you found one important bit of advice I forgot all on your own :) You're correct, a not too tense grip is very important. Best of luck to you!

Several questions: Colour change, card teleportation, card reveal, Cups and Balls

Thanks for the input! Concerning the Paintbrush change, from what little I've seen of either I like Alex Pandrea's take on that a lot, as it looks very smooth. Isn't the vertical snap quite angly as well? Thanks for the help!

Several questions: Colour change, card teleportation, card reveal, Cups and Balls

In that case, fantastic! Where is this "principle" taught? Both look extremely good. Can you say something on how angle-sensitive Tony Chang's is? And thanks for the Slydini recommendation :)

    Bottom Deal -

I was tempted to stop reading here and reply already. In his Penguin Lecture Jason England once said (jokingly): "Don't ask any questions on the bottom deal if you haven't practiced it for a year." What does he mean by this? The bottom deal is one of the moves you will constantly practice...
