    What's the point?!

Magicians are the same as time travelers from the future. We are not allowed to use our powers to do anything that will have a lasting impact on this timeline. We cannot fix wrongs or change events so we are out of necessity relegated to having omnipotence over a pack of cards and maintaining...

Do Monarchs, Medallions and other T11 cards handle differently from each other?

Do Monarchs, Medallions and Contrabands etc handle differently or are they made to similar specifications but with different artwork?

Really confused I need a help

I imagine that it is actually bags, nail, boards, and a helluva routine. Generally when you buy a Scott Alexender product you are buying a whole routine, not just a prop and a secret.

Beginner Book Resources on ALL THINGS

This. I have made a list of the books he discusses. Please use this list as encouragement to watch the video and listen to his thoughts on these books. Royal Road to Card Magic Encyclopedia of Card Tricks Scarne on Card Tricks Card Control Card Magic of Paul LePaul Close-Up Card Magic Stars...

    Card control to second position.

What books is the bluff pass found in? It sounds interesting and I am not familiar with it. I control it to the top, then some version of Marlo's tilt. The real question is where to get that move. I don't believe it's in any of the books you have. I hear it's in Card College and I think I...

Which cards do you think Faro the best?

Aristocrats seem to do well for the top to bottom faros, opposite direction from Bees.

    Need help with Faro shuffle!!

Try different brands of cards, they can behave differently. Bees are good for tabled faros. There is a thread from a few weeks ago that has more suggestions too.

February: What are you working on?

Pi Ring on Rubber band. Highly recommended by the way, a couple of the phases look great. And also working on getting my hand healed from my "Bowtie" injury. I think I'm going to have to leave that flashy stuff to the younger flourishers from now on. Though I may get tempted back, it looks...

    Exposure or not?

Is it exposure that libraries carry magic books containing explanations to many classic tricks? Well, yes it is, but at least it used to take a bit more effort than it does today. Before I was reasonably heavily into magic I saw what was probably Doug Henning make a duck disappear on...

Tricks that you REFUSE to use

While not a trick, plot or routine I will never ask a spectator to select a card by telling me 'when to stop'. I just seems unnatural to me.

    Is a buffed deck gaffed?

Thanks, I will continue to buff my decks and consider myself gaffless guilt free. And then get some gaffed cards to play with too. Sometimes I overthink these things.... Dave

    Is a buffed deck gaffed?

Thanks for your reply. It makes sense. I think of a crimp as a gaff and that would fit what you say. By the way, loved your video on the tabled faro. That is really what started this. I can do things with a buffed deck I could generally never do with an unbuffed one (47 ins in a row! sort...

    Need help with Faro Shuffle....

In reply to my own reply, I should note that I do tabled faros. I'm not sure if the direction is the same for in the hand faros. The info still applies to in the hand faros, but for all I know you may have to switch the face up/face down above. You should turn the cards over to experiment...

    Where to buy blank decks?

I just got a blank Bicycle deck from Penguin for $6.98. Easy, quick, but not super cheap. I just wanted a deck numbered 1-52 and got it with the intent to draw the numbers on with a marker. Anyone know if decks with just number on the cards exist?

    Need help with Faro Shuffle....

Try different types of cards. Also, as Rev mentioned they will often faro better face up. If this is unacceptable then try some other cards. Bee's are generally cut so they will faro well face down. Bicycles typically will faro better face up. You can also check out "Steven Youell's tips...

    Is a buffed deck gaffed?

While generally you just perform an effect and let it speak for itself, things are different when performing for knowledgeable card workers. Many of my friends are poker dealers and also rather knowledgeable about card handling (yes, I know many many dealers know very little about card...

    Is a buffed deck gaffed?

A buffed deck is simply when you take a nail buffer with 4 levels of 'grit' and smooth off and polish the sides of the deck. Some decks need it more than others. It is said they last longer and they certainly feel better. It can also improve how well they will do a faro, which I suppose is as...

    Is a buffed deck gaffed?

If I buff my decks does that mean it's a gaffed deck? If it means I can do things better than with an unbuffed, therefore 'regular', deck? Maybe since I'm just improving it's standard characteristics and not adding new ones it's not gaffed. I've come to like smooth decks, but I'm currently...
