Fiber Optics is a really good choice if you are into rope magic, I've done a magic show in my school couple years ago I recommend making it simple, prediction routines are good on stage, draw a playing card on a big paper A4 is good enough and put it in an envelope, and do it in your style...

I keep my collection in a box in a closet, not for safety but because I don't have much space for cool displays ... I don't know much about "light damage" but putting cards in the sunlight just doesn't feel good for me ... it is CARDS at the end.
