The answer is encourage people to learn from better sources. I think this is a significant issue. We value what has a cost, what we have to work for in some way. YouTube does devalue magic. So how many custom decks at $8 each do those people learning from YouTube have? It's not privilege...

But recognize there are still significant problems with the way many of those "established and reputable" people teach. There are very few people I would waste my time learning from. As @WitchDocIsIn said, most of it is crap and you won't know the difference until you have been exposed to...

    Derren Brown Clones

We all have to find our own way. If that is how he wants to present it, then encourage him to do it in a way that is unique to him. We all start out copying what we see and eventually (hopefully) find a way to become unique.

Need suggestions on my magic trick

Once is entertainment, twice is education. Spectator: "Do that again." Magician: "I could, but let me show you something better." Remember, you are in control of your audience, not the other way around.

Need suggestions on my magic trick

To be honest, learn different effects. Forcing a card and revealing it can only take you so far. There is a lot of great stuff in Scarne on Card Tricks -- Tricks I learned when I first started magic and still perform today. They are self working but are still great. Royal Road to Card Magic...

    The Complete Artifice Collection “Ellusionist”

Decks are a matter of personal preference. I like the looks of the Artifice without the borders. Having a border makes it easier to disguise some sleights. I've got a variety of decks for collection and fun. For performances, I'll use typical Bicycle Rider Back.

Anyone know how to do this trick?

We were all beginners once. Think of it this way, if we revealed the method on the forums, anyone else could find the method -- including your spectators. If you get Royal Road (or Card College for that matter), I'd be glad to steer you in the right direction to accomplish something similar.

Need suggestions on my magic trick

"I'm going to take one of these cards in my hand. What is your card?" If they say the name of the card in your hand, turn it over and smile. If they say the name of the card on the table, gesture to that card and say, "there is one card left, show the audience your card."

What misdirection do you use in your magic tricks?

So, the pass has been elevated to an indication of proficiency at sleight of hand. Truth is, it isn't that useful. To massacre mixed metaphors it is using a hammer when you need a fly swatter and the tendency is that when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. There are a lot of...

Anyone know how to do this trick?

@Jonah Ley - I'm assuming you mean the first effect in the video. We don't teach or expose effects on the forum. I've edited your post to remove your speculation. With that said, the effect appears to be a compilation of three basic methods which can be found (in one form or another) in the...

    1. Always remember the astonishment you saw in your spectators when you performed something amazingly easy. The level of astonishment doesn't increase if you perform something more difficult. 2. Perform. Every chance you get. 3. Don't drink from a fire hose. Start with one source, find...

    How are you doing?

As @JoshL8 and @Scodischarge said, you can upload unlisted videos and post them here for critique. We're a pretty constructive group here on the forums. Also, feel free to start "Conversations" by direct messaging folks. We were all beginners once and we all love to talk about magic.
